     The 12V mini air pump is a small diaphragm air pump driven by a 370 type DC motor. As the motor turns, the diaphragm in the pump head draws in and pushes out air; this provides a continuous air or gas flow to aquariums, hydroponic systems, blood pressure monitor cuffs and similar small volumes. One port is the suction port and the other is the outlet port; the suction port can also be used for small vacuum tasks.

     It is powered directly from a 12V DC adapter, a 12V battery or a 12V power supply; this is what separates it from the 6V mini air pump with the same body, and makes it suitable for 12V systems such as bait bucket aeration running from a 12V battery. It offers about 60KPa outlet pressure and an open-flow air flow of up to about 2.8l/minute. It also runs in the about 6V - 12V range; as the voltage drops, flow and pressure decrease.

     With its small body of 68mm length and 27mm diameter and about 60gr weight it fits easily inside a device. It consists of a metal motor body and a plastic pump head; silicone or aquarium air tubing with about 4mm inner diameter fits onto the two air ports. It pumps only air and gas; it does not pump water or liquids.

Usage information:

• Power the pump from a 12V DC adapter, battery or power supply that can deliver at least 500mA. Connect the 12V supply to the motor terminals.
• While it runs, find the outlet port by checking the ports with your finger and fit the 4mm inner diameter tubing to it. In an aquarium, fit an air stone to the underwater end of the tubing for finer bubbles.
• The pump draws about 250mA and the current rises with the load; do not power it directly from a control board pin, switch it on and off through a MOSFET or relay module and add a reverse diode across the motor terminals.

Precautions:

•  The pump is for air and gas only. Do not draw water or liquids; if liquid gets into the pump head, the diaphragm and motor are damaged.
•  In an aquarium, place the pump above the water level. Fit a check valve on the tubing so that water does not flow back to the pump when the power is cut.
•  Do not run it for a long time with the outlet fully blocked; the motor heats up and its life shortens.
•  The nominal supply voltage is 12V. Do not run it continuously from a clearly higher voltage (e.g. the about 14V charging voltage in a running vehicle); the motor and the diaphragm are strained.
•  The life value is for intermittent operation; it can be shorter in continuous operation.
