12V 40W Ceramic Heater
Hotend Resistance Heating Element Rod Extruder V6 Block Mold Plastic Bending Wax Melting Hot Glue
This product is a 12V 40W cartridge heater with a ceramic core and a stainless steel body, 6mm in diameter and 20mm long. Inside the body, the heating wire is wound on a ceramic core; at 12V it draws about 3.3A and delivers 40W of heat. The 100cm red braided high temperature cable has bare ends and connects directly to the screw terminal of a driver board or power supply.
It is mostly used in 3D printers to heat the aluminum heater block that holds the nozzle. It fits V5 / V6, J-head and similar hotend blocks with a 6mm cartridge bore; the nozzle is held at printing temperature by the thermistor in the block and the PID control of the printer board. It is suitable for printer boards running on a 12V supply.
Besides 3D printers, it is used together with a temperature sensor and a control circuit to heat small aluminum molds, heater blocks, plastic bending fixtures and the inside of boxes. When the cartridge sits tightly in its bore, it transfers heat to the metal block quickly.
Key features:
12V 40W, about 3.3A: Delivers 40W at 12V. Its resistance is about 3.5Ω - 3.6Ω, so the heater output (MOSFET) of the printer board must handle 3.3A.
Standard 6x20mm cartridge: 6mm diameter and 20mm length is the most common cartridge bore size in 3D printer hotend blocks; it fits V5 / V6 and J-head type blocks.
Ceramic core, stainless body: The heating wire is wound on a ceramic core and placed inside a stainless steel sheath; heat is transferred to the block through the body surface.
100cm red high temperature cable: The braided red cable is durable where it passes next to the hot block; the 1m length reaches the board without an extension on most printers. The cable entry is protected with red heat shrink tubing.
Bare end connection: The cable ends have no connector; they are screwed into the board terminal or fitted with the connector you need.
Features:
- Product type: Ceramic core cartridge heater (resistance)
- Supply voltage: 12V
- Power: 40W
- Current: about 3.3A (at 12V)
- Resistance: about 3.5Ω - 3.6Ω
- Heater structure: Heating wire wound on a ceramic core, inside a stainless steel sheath
- Compatible blocks: Hotend heater blocks with a 6mm cartridge bore (V5 / V6, J-head and similar)
- Driving: Heater output (MOSFET) of a 3D printer board or a MOSFET / relay module with enough current
- Control: PID temperature control with a thermistor is recommended
- Polarity: None; the two cable ends can be swapped (resistive heater)
- Related product: Aluminum V6 heater block is sold separately on our site
- Cable structure: Braided high temperature cable, entry protected with heat shrink tubing
- Cable ends: 2 bare ends (no connector)
- Material: Stainless steel body, ceramic core
- Color: Red cable, metal (gray) body
- Dimensions: 6mm x 20mm (diameter x length)
- Cable length: 100cm
- Weight: about 20gr (cable included)
Usage information:
- Push the heater fully into the 6mm bore of the block and fix it with the clamping screw of the block. If there is a gap in the bore, heat transfer drops and the heater overheats, which shortens its life.
- Connect the two cable ends to the heater (HE / HOTEND) terminal of the printer board; the heater has no polarity, the ends can be swapped. The heater supply of the printer board and the power supply must be 12V.
- Run a PID tuning (PID autotune) in the printer firmware when the heater is replaced or on first installation; because the heater warms up very fast, untuned control may overshoot or oscillate around the target temperature.
Applications:
- 3D printer hotend and nozzle heating
- Extruder heater block replacement and spare heater
- V5 / V6 and J-head type hotend blocks
- Small aluminum mold and block heating
- Plastic bending and forming fixtures
- Wax and paraffin melting fixtures
- Hot glue and adhesive heating fixtures
- Heating of closed boxes and small chambers
- Building small thermostat controlled heaters
Precautions:
- This heater is for 12V. If supplied with 24V, the power rises 4 times (about 160W); the heater and block are damaged and there is a fire risk. Use a 24V heater for 24V printers.
- Do not leave the heater powered continuously without a temperature sensor and control; uncontrolled, the temperature rises very high in a short time. Thermal runaway protection must be enabled in the printer firmware.
- Do not run the heater in open air outside its bore for long; a cartridge that cannot transfer its heat overheats.
- The heater output of the board and the cable connections must be rated for about 3.3A. A loose terminal connection heats up.
- Do not bend the cable sharply at the heater entry and secure the cable on moving axes to prevent strain.
