1S 15A Lithium Battery BMS Protection Board

Suitable for 3,7V 18650 Li-ion batteries. It does not charge the battery. It is for battery protection.

     1S 15A BMS is a high current protection board for a single 3.7V lithium-ion (Li-ion) cell or for 3.7V packs made of cells connected in parallel. It does not charge the battery; it is for battery protection: it protects the battery against charging above 4.25V, discharging below about 2.5V, overcurrent and short circuit. It carries 12A continuous charge and discharge current, and overcurrent protection trips at 15A.

     The board carries 6 pieces of 8205A dual MOSFETs working in parallel and a single cell protection IC. Compared with small 2 MOSFET boards such as 1S 3A, the current is shared by 6 MOSFETs, so it can be used in high current flashlights, speakers and parallel 18650 packs. The thin and narrow 35mm x 7.5mm board fits easily next to the cell or inside the pack.

     The wide B- and B+ pads at both ends of the board are soldered to the battery, and the P+ and P- pads in the middle go to the load and to the charger. The battery connection can be made with nickel strip or thick wire.

Key features:

     High current: 12A continuous charge and discharge current, 15A overcurrent protection. The current is carried by 6 pieces of 8205A MOSFETs in parallel; it suits much higher current than 2 MOSFET boards of the same size.

     Three way protection: It disconnects the battery at 4.25V on overcharge and at about 2.5V on over discharge; it shuts off the output on overcurrent and short circuit.

     Thin and narrow board: With 35mm x 7.5mm size and about 2mm thickness it fits next to an 18650 cell or inside a battery pack.

     Separate battery and load pads: B+ and B- pads are for the battery, P+ and P- pads are for the load and the charger; connections do not get mixed up.

     Suitable for parallel packs: It protects a 3.7V pack of parallel connected 18650 cells (1S2P, 1S3P) like a single cell.

Usage information:

• Solder the negative (-) end of the battery to the B- pad and the positive (+) end to the B+ pad. Connect the load and the charger to the P+ and P- pads.
• For charging, connect a lithium battery charger with 4.2V output (e.g. TP4056 charger module) to P+ and P-. The board does not regulate the charge current; it only cuts charging at 4.25V.
• At currents close to 12A use thick wire or nickel strip on the B and P connections; keep solder joints wide and solid.

Precautions:

•  This board is not a charger. A separate 4.2V lithium battery charger is required to charge the battery.
•  It is only for 1S (single cell or parallel cells, 3.7V) lithium-ion and LiPo batteries. It is not used in series 2S, 3S packs; the protection thresholds are not suitable for LiFePO4 (3.2V) batteries.
•  15A is the overcurrent protection limit. Continuous load should not exceed 12A, and the discharge current limit of the battery itself must not be exceeded.
•  Do not let the battery terminals touch each other while soldering. Do not connect the battery in reverse; reverse connection damages the board.
