1 Channel 5V Relay Module
Control Board 3.3V Compatible Smart Home Lamp Socket Fan Pump Solenoid Valve Irrigation Greenhouse Aquarium Thermostat Door Lock Alarm Contactor
The 1 channel 5V relay module is a ready-made relay board used to switch loads of up to 250VAC or 30VDC with a microcontroller or a low-current control signal. The board carries a JQC-3FF-S-Z relay, a circuit that drives the relay coil, a coil protection diode and two status LEDs; the relay coil current is supplied by the on-board driver circuit, not by the control pin.
The relay is powered with 5V. The input signal is 3.3V compatible. It does not work with a 5V trigger signal. If it will be controlled from a 5V system, the signal is divided with 2 resistors and applied to the input pin. The IN pin draws about 4mA and does not load the control output; the 5V relay coil draws about 71mA, and the relay operates in about 10ms and releases in about 5ms.
The NO (normally open), COM (common) and NC (normally closed) contacts of the relay are brought out to a 3-way screw terminal; loads such as lamps, fans, pumps, solenoid valves or contactor coils can be connected without soldering. With its 43mm x 17mm x 18mm size it easily fits into narrow enclosures and project panels.
Features:
- Product type: 1 channel 5V relay module
- Relay: JQC-3FF-S-Z, single changeover contact (NO - COM - NC)
- Supply (VCC): 5V
- Control input (IN): 3.3V compatible signal
- Contact rating (AC): 10A 250VAC
- Contact rating (DC): 10A 30VDC
- Driver circuit: Driven directly with 3.3V logic, and with 5V logic through a 2-resistor voltage divider.
- Compatible boards: ESP32, ESP8266, Raspberry Pi Pico, STM32, MSP430 (3.3V, directly); Arduino Uno/Nano, 8051, AVR, PIC (5V, through a voltage divider)
- Relay coil: 5V, about 71mA (69Ω, 0.36W)
- Input current: The IN pin draws about 4mA. It does not load the microcontroller pin.
- Relay operate / release time: about 10ms / 5ms
- Contact insulation: The relay contacts are insulated from the coil (relay rating 1500VAC). There is no optocoupler on the board; the board does not provide additional safety isolation between the control circuit and the mains.
- Coil protection diode: Protects the driver circuit against the reverse voltage generated when the relay releases.
- Status LEDs: 2 pieces; power LED and relay output indicator LED
- Control connection: 3-pin male header (VCC, GND, IN)
- Load connection: 3-way screw terminal (NO, COM, NC)
- Dimensions: 43mm x 17mm x 18mm
Usage information:
- Connect the VCC pin to the 5V supply, the GND pin to the GND of the control board and the IN pin to the output pin you will control it from. On boards with 3.3V logic, connect VCC to the 5V (VIN / VBUS) pin of the board, not to the 3.3V pin.
- If you will control it from a board with 5V outputs, reduce the signal to 3.3V with a 2-resistor voltage divider and apply it to the IN pin.
- Connect the load that should run when the relay is energised between COM and NO, and the load that should stop when the relay is energised between COM and NC.
- After completing the connections, switch the relay on and off by changing the level of the output pin; the relay output LED shows the state of the relay.
Areas of use:
- Home automation; lamp, socket and lighting control
- IoT and smart home projects with Arduino, ESP32 and ESP8266
- Fan, water pump and solenoid valve control
- Greenhouse, garden irrigation and aquarium automation
- Timer, thermostat and humidity control circuits
- Door lock, garage door and doorbell triggering
- Driving sirens and warning lamps in alarm and security systems
- Switching large loads by driving a contactor coil
- Battery, charging and power cut-off circuits
- Robotics, education and hobby electronics projects
Precautions:
- When working with 220V mains voltage, make the connections with the power off. Use the board inside an insulating enclosure so that the terminals and solder points cannot be touched.
- The 10A 250VAC and 10A 30VDC values are upper limits. With inductive loads with high inrush current such as motors and compressors, work with a lower current or drive a contactor with the relay.
- The input signal is at 3.3V level. Do not apply a 5V signal directly to the IN pin; use a voltage divider.
- There is no optocoupler on the board; the GND of the control board and the relay module are connected in common.
