3V - 6V DC Motor Toy Motor - 130 DC Motor
Toy Propeller Fan Model Car Boat Solar Powered Wind Turbine Generator Mixer Gearless High Speed
The 130-16140 is a gearless 130 size brushed micro DC motor that runs on 3V - 6V DC. Its body measures 25mm x 20mm x 15mm and is a cylindrical metal can with two flattened sides; a 2mm diameter, about 8mm long metal shaft comes out of the front. Without load it turns at about 5000rpm at 3V and about 10000rpm - 12500rpm at 6V; its no-load current is about 70mA.
There are 2 solder pads for the supply on both sides of the black plastic end cap at the back of the motor; no wires are attached, you connect the wires by soldering them to these pads. The motor has no fixed direction of rotation: it turns one way according to the polarity you apply and turns the other way when you swap the polarity. The current drawn under load rises with the load; when the shaft is stalled at 6V it reaches about 800mA - 1A.
Because it is fast and light, it is used in toy cars and boats, propeller and small fan mechanisms, solar powered car kits and, since it produces a voltage when turned by hand, in small wind turbine and generator experiments. Its torque is too low to turn a wheel directly; in wheeled vehicles it is used with gears or pulleys that reduce the speed.
Key features:
Common 130 type body: The 25mm x 20mm x 15mm body and 2mm shaft fit the 130 motor holders, propellers and gears most used in toys and experiment kits.
Runs on low voltage: It works between 3V - 6V; it can be powered by 2 AA batteries (3V) or 4 AA batteries (6V).
High speed: Without load it turns at about 5000rpm at 3V and about 10000rpm - 12500rpm at 6V; it suits mechanisms that must spin fast such as propellers and fans.
Both directions: The motor turns forward and backward by swapping the supply polarity; with a motor driver both direction and speed can be controlled.
Light and small: At about 17gr it adds little weight to small models.
Features:
- Product type: 130 size gearless brushed micro DC motor
- Model: 130-16140
- Operating voltage: 3V - 6V DC
- No-load speed (3V): about 5000rpm
- No-load speed (6V): about 10000rpm - 12500rpm
- No-load current: about 70mA (6V)
- Load and stall current: rises with the load; about 800mA - 1A at 6V with the shaft stalled
- Motor design: brushed DC motor, gearless (direct shaft output)
- Direction of rotation: both directions; direction changes when the supply polarity is swapped
- Connection: 2 solder pads on both sides of the end cap; no wires attached
- Material: metal motor can, black plastic end cap, metal shaft
- Shaft diameter: 2mm
- Shaft length: about 8mm (9.5mm from the body face including the front bearing boss)
- Rear bearing boss diameter: 9.9mm (boss height 2.4mm)
- Dimensions: 25mm x 20mm x 15mm (body without shaft and rear bearing boss)
- Weight: about 17gr
Usage information:
- Solder the supply wires to the two solder pads on the end cap. Solder quickly; a pad heated for a long time can soften the plastic cap.
- To run the motor forward and backward or with speed control, use a DC motor driver or a transistor driver circuit; to change the direction it is enough to swap the supply polarity.
- Press the propeller, gear or pulley onto the 2mm shaft as a tight fit; do not force the shaft and motor in the axial direction while fitting it.
Areas of use:
- Toy cars, boats and remote controlled toys
- Propeller, mini fan and ventilator mechanisms
- Solar powered car and solar panel experiment kits
- Wind turbine and small generator experiments
- Propeller driven model boats and air propelled model cars
- Model vehicles and mechanisms with speed reduced by gears or pulleys
- Small mixer and frother mechanisms
- Moving models and shop window displays
- School science and technology experiment kits
- Testing motor driver and PWM speed control circuits
Precautions:
- Do not power the motor directly from a microcontroller pin; at start-up and when stalled it can draw up to about 1A at 6V. Use a motor driver or a transistor.
- The operating voltage is 3V - 6V. A higher voltage heats the motor, wears the brushes and shortens its life.
- The motor is gearless, with high speed and low torque; it is not suitable for driving a vehicle with a wheel mounted directly on the shaft. For a wheeled vehicle choose a geared motor.
- Do not leave a motor with a held or jammed shaft powered for a long time; the stall current heats the motor and can damage the winding.
