LM2596 35V 3A Power Supply Module ( Steps Voltage Down )
Voltage Adjustable Supply DC DC Converter 35V 3A Power Module
When you first receive the product, you may need to turn the trimpot 10-20 full turns counterclockwise to lower the voltage.
The LM2596 Module is a ready-made step down power supply board with adjustable output voltage, built around the LM2596S-ADJ chip. It steps a DC input voltage between 4.5V and 35V down to a stable output voltage that can be set precisely (for example 5.05V) between 1.25V and 33V with a multi-turn trimpot. It delivers up to 3A output current and its efficiency reaches 92%, so it heats up much less than a linear regulator doing the same job.
The board measures about 44mm x 21mm and carries the LM2596S-ADJ chip, a 47µH inductor, a 100µF 50V input and a 220µF 35V output capacitor and a blue multi-turn adjustment trimpot. The input and output wires are soldered to the 4 pads marked IN+, IN-, OUT+, OUT- at the corners of the board; the board is screwed through 2 mounting holes. It is used to obtain low voltages such as 5V, 3.3V and 9V from sources such as 24V or 12V batteries, adapters and solar panels.
Key features:
Wide adjustment range: The output voltage is set between 1.25V and 33V with a multi-turn trimpot; since the trimpot turns 20-30 turns in both directions, fine adjustment is easy.
High efficiency, low heat: Thanks to the 150kHz switching design the efficiency reaches 92%; when stepping 24V down to 5V it does not turn the excess voltage into heat like a linear regulator.
Up to 3A current: It delivers up to 3A output current; up to 2A it works without a heatsink, at higher current or above 15W it is used with a heatsink.
Protection inside the chip: The LM2596 chip has current limit (short circuit) and thermal shutdown protection. There is no reverse polarity protection.
Small and easy to solder: The about 44mm x 21mm board with 4 large connection pads and 2 mounting holes fits easily into an enclosure.

Usage information:
- Connect the input source to the IN+ and IN- pads and the load to the OUT+ and OUT- pads. Before connecting the load, measure the output voltage with a multimeter and set it to the value you need.
- The trimpot is multi-turn and can turn 20-30 turns in both directions. Turning it clockwise raises the output voltage, turning it counterclockwise lowers it. A small turn may show no change; many turns are needed to see the effect.
- When you first receive the product the output voltage may be set high; before connecting a low voltage load, turn the trimpot 10-20 full turns counterclockwise and set the voltage while measuring it.
Application areas:
- 5V, 3.3V, 9V supply from 12V and 24V batteries or car electrics
- Low voltage supply in solar panel and battery systems
- Led strip and led lighting supply
- Camera, modem and small device supply
- Setting DC motor and fan speed by voltage
- Microcontroller, sensor and relay board supply
- Stepping an adapter voltage down to the device voltage
- Adjustable DC supply for bench experiments
- Efficient voltage step down in battery powered devices
Precautions:
- The input voltage must not exceed 35V and must be at least 1.5V higher than the output voltage. This module only steps voltage down; the output voltage cannot be higher than the input.
- There is no reverse polarity protection. Connecting the input and output terminals reversed or swapped damages the board.
- Above 2A or above 15W, fit a heatsink to the chip and provide airflow; otherwise the overheat protection cuts the output.
- The module has no current limit setting, only the voltage is adjusted. For jobs that need a current limit, such as battery charging, current must be limited separately.
