     The Metal Sensor Housing is a protective metal housing used to turn temperature and humidity sensors into a probe. The front head that holds the sensor is made of sintered copper particles and is nickel plated; its porous structure lets air reach the sensor and keeps dust out. The sensor measures the ambient air while being protected against dust, impact and touch. It is dustproof but it can let water through; it cannot be used in environments with excessive humidity.

     The housing consists of 3 parts: a sintered copper head, a brass connection nut and a stainless steel locking rear socket. Its outer width is 13.8mm, inner width 11mm and total length 73.5mm; the sintered tip section where the sensor sits is 31mm long. A cable of at most 4mm thickness passes through the rear socket. It weighs 27gr.

     The board or chip of small temperature-humidity sensors such as SHT11, HTU21, SHT20, SHT21, SHT15, SHT75, SHT30, AHT10, BME280 and AM2321 is placed inside the head and the cable exits at the rear. It lets the sensor be used as a protected probe in places such as greenhouses, poultry houses, incubators, warehouses and ventilation ducts. The housing itself contains no electronics; the sensor and cable are not included.

     Cabled probe design: A cable of at most 4mm thickness passes through the rear socket; the sensor stays inside the housing and the cable runs out to a remote controller board.

     Wide temperature range: The housing material can be used between -50°C and +200°C; the usable limit is set by the temperature range of the sensor and cable placed in it.

Usage information:

• First pass the cable through the rear socket and the connection nut, then solder or connect it to the sensor; the cable must be at most 4mm thick.
• Place the sensor so that its sensing surface stays inside the sintered head; insulate the solder joints with heat shrink or insulating tape so they do not touch the metal body.
• Assemble the parts and tighten the connection nut, then fix the cable with the screws on the rear socket; pulling the cable will then not stress the sensor's solder joints.

Precautions:

•  The housing is dustproof but not waterproof. It cannot be used in rain, water splash, condensation or excessive humidity; outdoors a rain shield is required.
•  The inner width is 11mm. Measure the board width of your sensor module; module boards wider than 11mm (such as some BME280 boards) do not fit inside.
•  The housing material withstands -50°C to +200°C, but the usable limit is set by the temperature range of the sensor and cable inside.
•  Do not apply oil, paint or silicone to the sintered head; clogged pores reduce air flow and slow down the measurement.
•  The sensor and cable are not included; only the metal housing is shipped.
