     The P100-E2 is a spring loaded test probe (pogo pin) used in test and programming jigs; the package contains 100 probes. The probe consists of a moving plunger and the outer barrel that carries it. The pointed (conical) plunger moves back and forth thanks to the spring inside the barrel; when the tip is pressed against the target surface, the spring compresses and the probe contacts the pad with spring pressure. Solderless programming and testing can be done without soldering a pin header to the board.

     Dimensions are from the product drawing: overall length 33.35mm, barrel diameter 1.36mm, plunger diameter 1.0mm, conical tip diameter 1.5mm. The plunger travels 6.35mm, the spring force is about 180gr and the probe carries up to 3A. The gold plated barrel and low contact resistance give a firm and repeatable contact.

     Unlike pin headers, P100-E2 probes are spring loaded; the spring absorbs small differences in pad height and contact reliability increases. The 100-piece package is enough for building your own fixtures; probes that wear or bend over time can be removed from the jig and easily replaced with new ones.

     6.35mm spring stroke: The plunger travels 6.35mm and presses on the pad with about 180gr spring force; the spring takes up differences in board height.

     3A current carrying: Not only signals but also the supply line can be fed through the probe; it is also used as the VCC and GND probe in programming jigs.

     Slim barrel for 2.54mm pitch: The 1.36mm barrel diameter allows probes to be placed side by side on 2.54mm (100mil) pitch pads; it fits R100 series receptacles.

     100 pieces with spares: Enough probes to build several fixtures or replace worn probes come in a single package.

Usage information:

• Insert the probe into an R100 series receptacle or place it in a hole of suitable diameter drilled in the fixture plate; connect the wire to the receptacle or to the rear end of the barrel. If you solder to the barrel, keep the heat short.
• Set up the fixture so that the plunger does not bottom out at the end of its full stroke when the probes press on the pads; part of the spring travel should remain free. This keeps the contact pressure and does not strain the probe.
• Measure the pad centres and place the probes at the same pitch; in a programming jig, compare the order of the VCC, GND and signal lines with the pads on the board.

Precautions:

•  The Robiz 5 Pin Programming Jig uses P75-E2 probes (tip diameter about 1.3mm); the P100-E2 is a different series and size (1.5mm tip, 33.35mm length) and does not fit that jig as a spare probe.
•  The P100 series is for 2.54mm (100mil) pitch; 1.27mm pitch or very small pads need a thinner probe series.
•  The pointed tip can mark the pad and can bend under side load; press the probe straight onto the pad and do not slide the board under the probes.
•  Do not exceed 3A; the probe is only a contact element, a short circuit or high current surge damages the spring and plating.
