Type-C Usb Socket 16 Pin Smd
USB 3.1 Mobile Phone Electronic Device Usb Port Connector Charging Socket Female
The Type-C Usb Socket 16 Pin Smd is a female USB Type-C connector soldered horizontally on the edge of a circuit board. Its 16 contacts are soldered to the board with 12 surface mount (SMD) pads (the GND and VBUS contacts share pads in pairs); the 4 legs of the metal shell pass through holes in the board and are soldered. These 4 legs hold the socket firmly on the board and keep the pads from tearing off while the cable is plugged in and out. The body measures 8.94mm x 7.30mm x 3.21mm; the signal pads have a 0.5mm pitch.
The socket contains the USB 2.0 data (D+ / D-), 5V supply (VBUS), GND, CC1 / CC2 and SBU1 / SBU2 contacts; it has no USB 3.x high speed data pairs (TX / RX). This makes it the simplest fully functional Type-C socket for a charging input and a USB 2.0 data connection: because the CC pins are brought out, 5V can be taken from Type-C chargers and C-C cables with 5.1kΩ resistors. It carries 3A; a plug inserted the other way round also works.
It is a spare part for people designing their own circuit boards, converting an old micro USB input to Type-C and repairing devices with a broken charging socket. If you are looking for a ready solution soldered on a board, see the "USB Type C to Dip Pcb" (2.54mm pin breakout board) and the screw-fixed "Type C Usb Soket Panel Montaj" products in the same category; this product is the bare, unsoldered socket.
Key features:
CC pins brought out: It has CC1 and CC2 pads; when each is connected to GND with a 5.1kΩ resistor, Type-C chargers and C-C cables supply 5V to the device. This is not possible with charging sockets that do not bring out the CC pins (VBUS and GND only).
USB 2.0 data: The D+ and D- contacts are on both sides (A6 / A7, B6 / B7); when the two pairs are joined on the board, the data connection works whichever way the plug is inserted.
Sturdy 4 leg mounting: The 4 legs of the metal shell are soldered into holes in the board; this keeps the socket from breaking off the board on charging inputs that are plugged in and out often.
3A current: 4 VBUS and 4 GND contacts share the current; it is suitable for charging and supply up to 5V 3A.
Features:
- Product type: USB Type-C female socket, horizontal (board edge) mounting
- Model: Type-C Usb Socket 16 Pin Smd
- Number of contacts: 16 (12 SMD pads on the board; GND and VBUS contacts share pads in pairs)
- Pin assignment: A1 / A12 / B1 / B12 GND, A4 / A9 / B4 / B9 VBUS, A5 CC1, B5 CC2, A6 / B6 D+, A7 / B7 D-, A8 SBU1, B8 SBU2
- Data: USB 2.0 (D+ / D-); no USB 3.x TX / RX pairs
- Current: 3A
- Rated voltage: 5V (USB supply)
- Contact resistance: 40mΩ maximum
- Insulation resistance: 100MΩ minimum
- Mating life: approximately 5000 cycles
- Mounting: SMD signal pads + 4 through-hole fixing legs
- Pad pitch: 0.5mm
- Plug orientation: reversible, can be inserted either way
- Operating temperature: -20°C - 85°C
- Material and colour: silver metal shell, dark plastic tongue
- Dimensions: 8.94mm x 7.30mm x 3.21mm (body)
Usage information:
- Use the recommended PCB layout dimensions in the product images for the 12 SMD pads (0.5mm pitch) and the 4 fixing holes. Solder the pads first with hot air or reflow, then solder the 4 legs from the back of the board.
- For charging / supply only: connect the VBUS and GND pads; connect CC1 and CC2 each to GND with a separate 5.1kΩ resistor. Without these resistors chargers with C-C cables do not supply 5V.
- For USB 2.0 data: join A6 with B6 (D+) and A7 with B7 (D-) on the board; the plug then works in both directions.
Areas of use:
- Type-C charging and data input on your own circuit board designs
- Powerbank and lithium battery charging circuits
- Bluetooth speaker and headphone charging input
- Keyboard, mouse and gamepad USB connection
- Desk lamp, torch and LED lamp charging input
- Portable fan and small home appliances
- Converting a micro USB input to Type-C
- Repairing devices with a broken charging socket (spare part)
- Microcontroller boards with USB 2.0 communication
Precautions:
- If the CC1 / CC2 resistors (5.1kΩ) are not fitted, chargers with Type-C - Type-C cables will not supply power to the device; it will only work with USB-A - Type-C cables.
- The pad pitch is 0.5mm; bridges can form between pads when soldering with an iron. Use a fine tip iron, flux and a magnifier or hot air, and check for short circuits after soldering.
- This socket does not carry USB 3.x high speed data; it is only for USB 2.0 data and 5V supply.
- The current must not exceed 3A; 9V / 12V fast charging (PD) needs a separate controller chip, the socket does not do this by itself.
- Always solder the 4 fixing legs; a socket held only by its pads can break off the board when the cable is plugged in and out.
