     The XT60 cable pair is a ready-made connection set made of 10cm long 14AWG silicone wire soldered to one male and one female XT60 connector. It is used to quickly connect LiPo, Li-ion and NiMH batteries to an ESC, a power distribution board, a charger or your own circuit. Since the connector side is factory soldered and insulated with heat shrink tubing, you only need to solder the open wire ends to your own circuit.

     The XT60 connector is rated for 30A continuous and 60A short-term peak current, and its gold plated 3.5mm contacts provide low contact resistance. In this ready-made set the continuous current limit is set by the 14AWG wire, not by the connector: keep the continuous load at approximately 20A at most. The trapezoid (chamfered) housing allows the connector to be plugged in only one way, which prevents reverse battery polarity. It is one of the most widely used battery connectors in drone, quadcopter, RC car, boat and robot projects.

     The wires have stranded tinned copper conductors and silicone insulation; the wire is printed with 200°C and 600V. Silicone insulation does not stiffen in the cold, bends easily and does not melt while soldering. The red wire is positive (+) and the black wire is negative (-); the open ends come pre-tinned and are ready for soldering or a terminal block.

Usage information:

• Connect the female XT60 cable to the power source (battery) side and the male XT60 cable to the load (ESC, circuit) side. Because the contacts of the female connector stay inside the housing, using the female on the live side reduces the risk of a short circuit.
• Solder the open wire ends to your circuit or ESC pad and insulate the solder joint with heat shrink tubing. Connect the red wire to positive (+) and the black wire to negative (-).
• Check the polarity with a multimeter before powering up for the first time. When unplugging, pull the yellow housing, not the wire.

Precautions:

•  The 60A rating applies only to short-term peak current, and 30A is only the continuous rating of the connector. The 14AWG wire in this set heats up if loaded above 20A for a long time; use an XT60 with thicker (12AWG) wire for continuous high current applications.
•  While a battery is connected, do not let the open wire ends touch each other or a metal surface; a short circuit on LiPo batteries can cause a fire.
•  Do not reverse the polarity; the red wire must be positive (+) and the black wire negative (-). Reverse connection damages the ESC and circuits.
•  Do not heat the connector for long while soldering the open ends; excessive heat can soften the nylon housing and loosen the contacts.
