     This product is a DC 12V brushless axial cooling fan measuring 50mm x 50mm x 10mm (5x5cm, 5010 size). It draws about 0.1A, spins at about 5000rpm and delivers about 10CFM of airflow. The hub label reads "Brushless Fan, DC 12V" and marks an oil-impregnated sleeve bearing; the fan has a black 7-blade plastic impeller and a plastic frame.

     The fan has two wires of about 30cm, red (+12V) and black (GND), ending in a white 2-pin socket, so it plugs into a 12V fan header or a socketed supply lead without soldering. The four corner screw holes of the frame let you mount it on a case, a heatsink or a panel. Its 10mm thickness fits narrow enclosures, incubators, Peltier coolers and the inside of 12V powered devices.

     As it runs on 12V, it can be powered directly from a 12V adapter, a 12V battery or the 12V rail of the device. Unlike the 5V 3x3cm (30mm) fan, its larger frame and higher airflow suit 12V devices that heat up more, such as power supplies, amplifiers and inverters.

Usage information:

• Connect the red wire to +12V and the black wire to GND. A 12V adapter, a 12V battery or the 12V rail of the device can be used; if the socket does not match your supply, use a mating socket or a terminal block.
• The fan draws air in on one face of the frame and blows it out of the other. Before mounting, run the fan and check the airflow direction by hand; place it so that it blows onto the hot part or out of the enclosure.
• To switch the fan from a controller board, do not power it from a board pin; switch the 12V line through a transistor or MOSFET.

Precautions:

•  The fan is for DC 12V. Do not supply 24V; the motor overheats and is damaged.
•  On 5V the speed and airflow drop markedly or the fan may not start; choose a 5V fan for a 5V line.
•  Do not reverse the polarity: red +12V, black GND.
•  Keep fingers and wires away from the spinning impeller; fix the cable so that it cannot touch the blades.
•  Do not block the air inlet and outlet faces; clean the impeller from time to time in dusty places.
