     The 12V 4x4cm Fan is a brushless cooling fan measuring 40mm x 40mm x 10mm (4010 size) that runs on 12V DC. It draws about 0.1A, spins at about 5000 - 6200RPM and provides about 5CFM of airflow. Its label reads "Hydrulic bearing / DC BRUSHLESS / DC 12V": it has a hydraulic (oil-filled sleeve) bearing, which runs quieter and lasts longer than ordinary sleeve bearing fans.

     The black plastic frame has screw holes in its 4 corners; the fan is screwed onto a heatsink, a case wall or a board. A white 2-pin XH2.54 female connector is fitted to the end of the red-black cable of about 30cm; it plugs directly into a 12V supply output, or the wire ends can be soldered. Its 9-blade impeller and 10mm thickness let it fit into tight spaces.

     Thanks to its small size and 12V supply it suits incubator ventilation, Peltier coolers, 3D printer extruder and mainboard cooling, and power supply and amplifier box cooling. A 24V fan of the same size and fans of other sizes (3x3cm, 5x5cm) are also available; this product is 12V and 4x4cm.

Usage information:

• Connect the red wire to the positive (+) terminal of the 12V supply and the black wire to the negative (GND) terminal. A fan connected in reverse does not spin and can be damaged.
• Fix the fan with screws through its 4 corner holes; when mounting it on a heatsink, check that the blades do not touch screw heads or wires.
• Leave space in front of and behind the fan for air intake and exhaust; in a closed box open a ventilation hole on the opposite side.

Precautions:

•  The fan is for 12V; do not supply it with 24V. Many 3D printers have a 24V fan output on the mainboard; check the output voltage before plugging in. Supplied with 5V it spins very slowly or does not start at all.
•  Mind the polarity: red is positive (+), black is negative (GND). Reverse connection does not run the fan and can damage its motor driver.
•  Do not put fingers, wires or other objects into the blades while the fan is running.
•  The fan has 2 wires and no speed signal; there is no tachometer output (3rd wire) or PWM speed control input.
•  It is not waterproof; in humid and dusty environments blade and bearing life is shortened, clean it regularly.
