     The 15cm Adapter Cable Female is a short power cable with a 5.5mm x 2.1mm female DC jack on one end and stripped, tinned red (+) and black (-) wires on the other end. Standard adapters with a 5.5mm x 2.1mm male plug plug directly into this jack; the open ends are soldered or connected to a circuit, a terminal block or the power input of a device. The cable length is 15cm and the wire gauge is 22AWG.

     The center pin of the jack is positive (+) and the outer sleeve is negative (-); this is the center positive layout used by most 12V adapters. The outer diameter of the jack is 10.5mm and its front part is 12mm long; the ribbed flexible part at the cable entry reduces breaking of the cable at the jack. It is suitable for up to 36V and 3A, and it weighs 6gr.

     It is used to add an adapter power input to LED strips, security cameras, modems, fans, pumps and your own devices, to make a short power extension or to renew a cut adapter end.

Usage information:

• Connect the red wire to the positive (+) input of the circuit or device and the black wire to the negative (-) input. Before connecting, check on the adapter label that the center pin is positive.
• After soldering the wire ends, slide heat shrink tubing over them to insulate the bare metal parts; when using a terminal block, tighten the screw on the tinned part of the wire end.
• The adapter voltage must be the same as the input voltage of the device, and its current must be greater than or equal to the current drawn by the device.

Precautions:

•  This cable has a female jack; the male plug of the adapter fits into this jack. For a cable that plugs into a female socket on a device, a male jack cable is needed.
•  Use only with 5.5mm x 2.1mm plugs. A 5.5mm x 2.5mm plug sits loosely in this jack and the contact may break.
•  Do not exceed 36V voltage and 3A current; at excessive current the cable and jack heat up.
•  On some adapters the center pin is negative. An adapter with reverse polarity can damage the device; check the polarity mark on the adapter label.
