Optocoupler Isolated AC 220V Detector Sensor Module
Led Indicator 1 Channel TTL Mcu and PLC Compatible
Care must be taken when using this product, as it works with 220V.
The Optocoupler Isolated 220V Detector Module detects whether 220V AC mains voltage is present on a line and converts this into a low voltage digital signal. An optocoupler sits between the 220V side and the control side, so mains voltage does not pass electrically to the control board, microcontroller or PLC input. The supply side works from DC 3V - 24V, so it can be used both in 3.3V and 5V circuits and with 24V PLC inputs.
When 220V is present on the line, the green LED on the board lights up and the OUT pin goes low (0V). When 220V is absent, the LED turns off and the supply voltage appears on OUT. The output thus gives a direct "power on / off" signal; a power failure, whether a device is running, or whether a fuse has tripped can be monitored.
Connections are made with screw terminals, no soldering is needed: a 2-pin 5.0mm terminal for L and N on the 220V side and a 3-pin 5.0mm terminal for VCC, OUT and GND on the control side. The slim 72mm x 15mm board weighs 11gr and fits easily inside an electrical panel or project box. The product should be used in dry, moisture-free and ventilated environments.
Key features:
Optocoupler isolation: The optocoupler between the 220V side and the control side separates mains voltage from the control circuit; only a digital signal reaches the control board.
Wide supply range: Powered from DC 3V - 24V. The output level equals the supply; it suits 3.3V, 5V and 24V inputs.
Clear output logic: OUT is 0V (low) when 220V is present and at supply level when 220V is absent. The green LED also shows 220V presence.
Use with PLC: When powered from 24V, OUT gives a 24V level signal; with 24V PLC inputs, phase and power presence are monitored in panel automation.
Easy screw terminal wiring: Both sides have 5.0mm screw terminals; wires are connected and removed without soldering.

Usage information:
- Make connections with the power off. Connect the phase of the 220V line to be detected to the L terminal and the neutral to the N terminal.
- On the control side, connect VCC to your control board's supply voltage (3.3V, 5V or 24V), GND to the control board GND, and OUT to a digital input. OUT gives a signal at the supply voltage level.
- Set up the logic inverted in software or the PLC program: OUT low (0V) means 220V is present, OUT high means 220V is absent.
- When used with a 24V PLC, power the module from the PLC's 24V supply, connect GND to the supply negative and feed OUT to the PLC input.
Applications:
- Power failure detection and outage alarm
- Pump and motor running monitoring
- Generator and mains power presence monitoring
- Boiler and heater running status
- Panel automation with PLC (phase presence input)
- Fuse and residual current breaker trip notification
- Smart home and remote monitoring systems
- Detecting doorbell, lamp and socket voltage
- Reading 220V status with a microcontroller
Precautions:
- The 220V side of the board is life-threatening while operating. Do not touch the solder points or the parts in the high voltage marked area while powered; this area must not touch metal surfaces.
- Mount the board inside an insulating box or panel; do not use it exposed or in damp or dusty places.
- OUT goes low (0V) when 220V is present; if the logic is not inverted, outage and power presence are swapped.
- The module only detects voltage presence; it does not measure the voltage value or current.
- The control side supply voltage must not exceed the DC 3V - 24V range.
- OUT is pulled up to the supply level by an on-board pull-up resistor and cannot source current; it is not used to drive loads such as LEDs or relays. If a PLC input that needs a higher input current does not read the high level, add an external pull-up resistor between OUT and VCC.
