     The 2x100mm Shaft Rod is a solid, straight round steel shaft with a diameter of 2mm and a length of 100mm. Its surface is straight and smooth; it has no thread, groove or flat, and both ends are cut square. It is used as a wheel axle in toy and model vehicles, as a shaft for small gears and pulleys, or as a support pin between two parts. It weighs about 2.5gr.

     Wheels, gears, pulleys and bearings with a 2mm bore slide directly onto the shaft. The 100mm length is longer than most model vehicles need; the shaft is cut to the required length with a hacksaw or cutting disc, so several short axles can be made from one rod. It is grey metallic in colour.

     It is suitable for toy RC cars, model airplanes, model ships and boats, small robots and scale models as a wheel and propeller axle, gearbox shaft and guide rod. The product is intended for toy and model scale; it does not replace a high-load or precision machine shaft.

Usage information:

• Measure the axle length you need, hold the shaft in a vise or pliers and cut it with a hacksaw or cutting disc. Remove the burr at the cut end with a file or sandpaper; a burred end will not enter a wheel or bearing bore.
• Slide the wheel and gear onto the shaft; fix loose parts with glue, a set screw or a shaft collar (retaining ring) fitted on the shaft.
• If the shaft is mounted in a body or chassis, make the hole slightly larger than 2mm or use a bushing/bearing; the shaft must turn without binding.

Precautions:

•  The shaft is 2mm in diameter; being thin, it can bend under high load or impact. Use it only at toy, model and scale-model level.
•  It is not specified as stainless steel. In humid environments and in boat applications with water contact, protect the shaft with a thin film of oil.
•  Wear safety glasses when cutting; the cut end can be sharp, remove the burr.
•  Make sure the bore of the wheel, gear and bearing is 2mm; parts with a 3mm or larger hole will not fit this shaft without an extra bushing.
