     The 3x150mm Shaft Rod is a solid, straight round steel shaft 3mm in diameter and 150mm long. Its surface is straight and smooth; there is no thread, groove or flat on it, and both ends are cut flat. It is used in toy and model vehicles as a wheel axle, a gear and pulley shaft or a carrier pin between two parts. It weighs about 8.3gr.

     Wheels, gears, pulleys, couplings and bearings with a 3mm bore slide directly onto the shaft. The 150mm length can be used as a one-piece axle on wide-axle model vehicles; when a shorter axle is needed, the shaft is cut with a hacksaw or cutting disc and several short axles are obtained from one rod. It is gray metallic in color.

     The 3mm diameter is thicker than the 2mm shaft sold in the same series and resists bending better at the same length; it suits slightly larger toy vehicles, robot chassis and model boats. The product is for toy and model scale; it does not replace a high load or precision machine shaft.

Usage information:

• Measure the required axle length, clamp the shaft in a vise or with pliers and cut it with a hacksaw or cutting disc. Remove the burr at the end with a file or sandpaper after cutting; a burred end will not enter the wheel or bearing bore.
• Slide the wheel and gear onto the shaft; fix a loose part with adhesive, a set screw or a shaft collar (stop ring) placed on the shaft.
• If the shaft is mounted to a body or chassis, drill the seat slightly wider than 3mm or use a bushing/bearing; the shaft must turn without binding.

Precautions:

•  The shaft is 3mm in diameter; being long and thin at 150mm, it can bend under high load or impact. Use it only at toy, model and scale model level.
•  It is not stated to be stainless steel. In humid environments and in boat applications in contact with water, protect the shaft with a thin layer of oil.
•  Wear safety glasses while cutting; the cut end may be sharp, remove its burr.
•  Make sure the bore of the wheel, gear and bearing is 3mm; parts with a 2mm bore do not fit this shaft and parts with larger bores sit loosely without a bushing.
