     This product is a set of male - female banana (bullet) connectors with a 3.5mm pin diameter and a gold plated brass body; the package contains 5 pairs, that is 5 male and 5 female connectors. It is a single pole power connector that is soldered to the wire and joins two wire ends so that they can be unplugged and plugged again. It is not a panel mount banana socket terminal or a test instrument plug; it is fitted to a wire end.

     The tip of the male connector has a lengthwise slotted spring (crown) structure; when it is pushed into the female connector its leaves press firmly from the inside, the contact surface stays large and it does not loosen under vibration. Both parts have a wire cup (solder cup) at the rear end with a solder hole on the side. According to the majority of seller listings it carries 25A continuous current and suits about 16AWG - 14AWG wire. The gold plating keeps the contact resistance low and reduces oxidation.

     It is mostly used on the three phase wires between a brushless motor and an ESC (motor controller) and on the power line from the battery to the ESC. In drone, RC helicopter, airplane, car and boat models it allows the motor or the battery to be changed without desoldering.

Usage information:

• Separate the pairs taken out of the package: the male and female connectors come plugged together. Solder the male connector to one wire end and the female connector to the opposite wire end.
• Strip the wire end about as deep as the connector cup, twist and tin the strands. Hold the connector in a vise or holder, fill its cup with solder, push the wire in while the solder is liquid and do not move it until it cools.
• After soldering slide heat shrink tubing over each connector. Using the female connector on the battery side lowers the risk of the exposed end causing a short circuit.

Precautions:

•  The product does not come as single pieces but as 5 pairs plugged together; even if it looks as if only one side was shipped, each pair consists of one male and one female connector.
•  The connector has no insulation. Always insulate it with heat shrink tubing after soldering; bare metal surfaces touching each other cause a short circuit.
•  The current rating depends on the wire size and the solder quality. A connection heating up at high current is a sign of a cold solder joint or thin wire; keep the current below 25A in continuous use.
•  Do not hold the connector with bare hands while soldering; the brass body conducts heat quickly. Heating for a long time damages the gold plating and the nearby wire insulation.
•  A 3.5mm connector only mates with its 3.5mm counterpart; it is not compatible with 2mm, 4mm or 5.5mm bullet connectors. It does not mate with the 4mm banana plugs of test instruments either.
