     This product is a slim dual band Wifi rod antenna with an SMA male connector, working in the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz bands with 6dBi gain. The nut of the SMA male connector has an internal thread and there is a pin in its center; it screws directly onto an SMA female (external thread) antenna socket with a hole in the center. SMA female sockets are used on 5.8GHz video transmitters, SDR receivers, SMA socket routers and gateways, wireless modules and antenna extension cables.

     The antenna is about 20cm long when straight; according to the product image the rod part is 172mm and the hinge and connector part is 37mm. It is a light antenna with a black body weighing 18gr. Thanks to the hinge above the connector it can be adjusted between 90 - 180 degrees; whether the device stands horizontally or vertically, the antenna can be set upright. It radiates in all directions (omni), has vertical polarization and 50ohm impedance.

     Versions with the same look and an RP-SMA male (hole in the center) connector are also sold; most home modems, routers and Wifi network cards have RP-SMA sockets and need that version. The product in this listing is the SMA male version. For places that need higher gain there is also a 12dBi dual band SMA male antenna; the 6dBi antenna is slimmer and lighter. Increasing RF power provides a better connection but also increases its harmful effect on living beings.

Usage information:

• Look at the antenna socket of the device: if the socket has an external thread and a hole in the center (SMA female) this antenna fits. Screw the antenna on clockwise by hand; do not tighten it with pliers.
• Set the antenna upright at its hinge. Keep the antennas used on the transmitter and the receiver in the same orientation (both upright).
• Keep the antenna in an open spot away from metal surfaces and the inside of the enclosure; if needed, bring it outside the enclosure with an SMA extension cable.

Precautions:

•  Please pay attention to the socket type ( Male – Female ) when purchasing ! This product is SMA male (center pin). It does not fit the RP-SMA female (center pin) socket found on most home modems, routers and Wifi network cards; those need an RP-SMA male antenna.
•  The antenna is for the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz bands; it cannot be used as the mobile antenna of 2G / 3G / 4G (GSM, LTE) mobile line modems.
•  The 6dBi gain is a seller value; the improvement the antenna brings depends on walls and obstacles in the environment, and the range is also limited by the transmit power of the device.
•  The antenna is vertically polarized; in moving video systems that use circularly polarized antennas (such as drones) the signal weakens when the antenna on the other side is not of the same type.
•  Increasing RF power provides a better connection but also increases its harmful effect on living beings.
