     This product is a 160mm long, flat (paddle type) 8dBi dual band Wifi antenna with an SMA male connector. It works in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz (5.8GHz) bands. The nut of the SMA male connector has an inner thread and a center pin; it screws directly onto an SMA female (outer thread, center hole) antenna socket. SMA female sockets are used on 5.8GHz video transmitters, SDR receivers, routers and gateways with SMA sockets, wireless modules and antenna extension cables.

     The black plastic body has a hinge at the bottom; the antenna can be set straight (180 degrees) or at a right angle (90 degrees), so it stays vertical whether the device stands horizontally or vertically. It is an omnidirectional antenna with vertical polarization; impedance is 50ohm and it withstands up to 50W input power. Length is 160mm and weight is 14gr.

     The same looking antenna is also available with an RP-SMA male (female pin, center hole) connector; most home modems, routers and Wifi network cards have RP-SMA sockets and need that version. The product in this listing is the SMA male (center pin) version. Increasing the RF power provides a better connection, but it also increases its harmful effect on living beings.

Usage information:

• Check the antenna socket of your device: if the socket has an outer thread and a center hole (SMA female), this antenna fits. If the socket has a center pin (RP-SMA female), the RP-SMA male version is needed. Screw the antenna clockwise by hand; do not tighten with pliers.
• Set the antenna upright using its hinge. Keep the transmitter and receiver antennas in the same orientation (both vertical).
• Keep the antenna in an open place away from metal surfaces and the inside of enclosures; if needed, take it outside the case with an SMA extension cable.

•  The antenna is for the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz bands; it is not used as a mobile line antenna for 2G / 3G / 4G (GSM, LTE) modems.
•  8dBi is the gain value given by sellers; the improvement depends on walls and obstacles in the environment.
•  The antenna is vertically polarized; in video systems using circularly polarized antennas the signal weakens when the other side does not use the same type.
