     This set is a 2.4GHz Wifi antenna and cable kit for connecting wireless modules with a U.FL (IPEX MHF1) antenna socket to an antenna outside the enclosure. It contains a foldable black 3dBi stick antenna and a 10cm coaxial cable with a U.FL connector on one end and a panel mount SMA socket on the other. The antenna screws onto the SMA socket; the U.FL end of the cable is pressed onto the small antenna socket on the module.

     The SMA end of the cable comes with a nut and washer and is fixed into a hole in the wall of the box or panel. The module stays inside a closed box while the antenna stays outside, so the box itself does not block the signal. It is used in boxed products to increase the communication range of devices inside plastic or metal enclosures that communicate in the 2.4GHz band, such as Wifi, Bluetooth and Zigbee.

     The antenna is about 12cm long (9cm body + 3cm hinge section) and thanks to its hinge it can be used straight or folded to 90 degrees. It is used in devices with a suitable socket such as ESP8266, ESP32, Raspberry Pi and CC3000. It is suitable for indoor use.

     3dBi gain in the 2.4GHz band: The antenna is made for the 2.4GHz band; it is an omnidirectional, vertically polarized 3dBi stick antenna. Wifi, Bluetooth and Zigbee work in the same band.

     Folding hinge: The antenna folds up to 90 degrees at its hinge; it can be set upright whether the box is mounted horizontally or vertically.

Usage information:

• Drill a hole in the box wall that fits the body of the SMA socket. Remove the nut, pass the socket through the hole from inside, fit the washer and nut from outside and tighten. Screw the antenna onto the outer SMA end by hand.
• Align the U.FL end of the cable with the antenna socket of the module and press it straight down; it snaps into place. When removing, do not pull the cable; lift the connector straight up from the socket.
• Set the antenna upright and keep it away from metal surfaces if possible; the best range is reached with the antenna upright.
• On modules with both an on-board (ceramic / PCB) antenna and a U.FL socket, external antenna selection depends on the module; check the external antenna setting of your module.

Precautions:

•  The U.FL end of the cable fits only U.FL / IPEX MHF1 sockets. It does not fit the smaller MHF4 sockets on laptop M.2 Wifi cards.
•  The module must have a U.FL antenna socket. This set cannot be connected to modules with only an on-board (PCB) antenna.
•  The U.FL connector is not made for frequent plugging; its mating life is limited (about 30 cycles for U.FL) and its grip weakens with each plug and unplug. Do not force the cable over the connector.
•  The antenna is made for the 2.4GHz band; it is not suitable for 900MHz / 1800MHz GSM and 4G mobile line modems.
•  It is suitable for indoor use; it should not be left outdoors exposed to rain and sun.
