Kapton Tape 10mm x 30 Meters
High Low Temperature -73C 260C Thermal Heat Resistant Strong Insulation Scratch and Tear Resistant Solvent Resistant Polyimide Masking Electronics Repair PCB SMT
Kapton Tape 10mm x 30 Meters is a narrow, 10mm wide, amber coloured heat resistant tape made of polyimide film with silicone adhesive on one side. It is used continuously between -73C and 260C and withstands about 280C for short periods; it does not melt, flow or fade at soldering, hot air and reflow oven temperatures. The 10mm width is suited to masking and insulating a single connector pin, a thin trace, a thermistor or a cable joint without needlessly covering the surrounding area.
The tape comes as a 30 meter roll wound on a core with a 76mm inner diameter; the outer diameter of the roll is 97mm. Thanks to its thin structure (about 0.05mm) it lies flat on parts and does not build up thickness. The silicone adhesive keeps holding at high temperature and leaves no residue on the surface when peeled off after the job. It is used to protect surrounding parts while working with hot air in phone and board repair, and to insulate battery cell connections and coil ends. A 20mm wide version is available for covering larger surfaces in one pass.
Key features:
Narrow tape for small areas: The 10mm tape masks small areas such as a single connector pin, a thin board trace, a thermistor or a cable joint without needlessly covering their surroundings; it is used directly in tight spots without trimming.
Wide temperature range: Used continuously between -73C and 260C and up to about 280C for short periods; keeps its shape during soldering, hot air and oven processes.
Residue-free silicone adhesive: The adhesive holds at high temperature; when the tape is peeled off after the job it leaves no marks or residue on the surface.
Strong insulation: Polyimide film does not conduct electricity; it forms a thin insulating layer against short circuits on cable joints, coil ends and battery cell connections.
Thin and durable: At about 0.05mm thick the tape lies flat on parts; it resists breaking, tearing and solvents.

Usage information:
- Clean the surface of dust, grease and solder paste residue and dry it; apply the tape flat while keeping it taut and press it down so that no air bubbles remain.
- For masking, apply the tape over the area to be protected (connector pin, plastic socket, sensor, hole) before the soldering or hot air process; peel it off slowly after the process is finished and the part has cooled down.
- For insulation, wrap the cable joint, coil end or battery cell connection with at least one overlapping turn; at corners cut and use a new piece instead of folding the tape.
Areas of use:
- Masking single connector pins and thin traces in wave and reflow soldering
- Protecting surrounding parts while working with hot air in SMT and BGA repair
- Phone, tablet and laptop board repair
- Temporary fixing in electronics repair and soldering work
- Fixing thermistors, thermal sensors and heater resistors
- Insulation of lithium battery cell and battery pack connections
- Insulation of coil, transformer and motor winding ends
- Heat resistant insulation of cable joints and sensor connections
- Securing thermistor and heater wires on the 3D printer hotend
Precautions:
- The continuous operating temperature is 260C; do not keep the tape in contact with an open flame or a soldering iron tip for long.
- The tape does not conduct electricity; it cannot be used for shielding or grounding.
- The adhesive does not hold fully on greasy, dusty or damp surfaces; clean the surface before applying.
- If the tape is pulled off at high temperature (while the process is still hot) it may break; wait for the part to cool down.
- Polyimide does not withstand strong alkaline (base, caustic) solutions for long; do not use it where such chemical contact occurs.
- This is a narrow 10mm tape; covering a wide board surface or a whole battery pack needs several strips side by side, the 20mm version is better suited for that job.
