Boxed DB9 to Dip Adapter Female Terminal Socket
9 Pin D-Sub Serial Port RS232 RS485 Communication Uart DC 3V 5V Computer Modem Satellite Receiver GSM Firmware Update
The Boxed DB9 to Dip Adapter Female is a solderless converter that brings the pins of a DB9 (D-Sub 9 pin) female socket out to screw terminals. The board carries two 5-way terminal blocks in 2 rows; the terminals are marked 1-9 and GND; terminals 1-9 are connected to the DB9 pins with the same number. Wire ends are tightened into the terminals with a screwdriver, no soldering is needed.
The board sits inside a black snap-fit plastic box. The cable entering from the rear of the box is clamped with the supplied plastic cable clamp and 2 screws, so pulling the cable does not load the terminals. Cables up to about 10mm diameter can be used. There are threaded lock nuts on both sides of the DB9 socket; a mating connector with screws (e.g. a serial cable with screws) is fixed by screwing it into these nuts.
Being a passive connection part, it needs no power and does not change the signal; it is used on RS232, RS485 and RS422 serial lines to quickly make cables for DB9 devices such as PLC, CNC, modem, satellite receiver, barcode reader, scale and cash register, for field wiring and for preparing firmware update cables.
Key features:
Solderless connection: Wire ends are tightened into screw terminals; a DB9 cable is ready in minutes without a soldering iron, and a wrong wire can be removed and reconnected.
10 numbered terminals: Two 5-way terminal blocks are marked 1-9 and GND; the terminal number equals the DB9 pin number, so there is no confusion in pin mapping.
Boxed with cable clamp: The snap-fit plastic box covers the terminals; the cable clamp and 2 screws hold the cable at the box entry and protect the connection against pulling.
Lock nuts: There are threaded lock nuts on both sides of the DB9 socket; if the mating connector has screws, they fit into these nuts and the connection does not loosen under vibration.
Passive and versatile: It needs no power and passes the signal as is; the same adapter is used on RS232, RS485 and RS422 lines.
Features:
- Product type: Boxed, solderless DB9 female to screw terminal converter (adapter)
- Connector: DB9 (D-Sub 9 pin) female socket, metal shell
- Terminals: 2 pieces 5-way screw terminal blocks, 10 terminals in total (1-9 and GND)

- Current: Maximum 1A
- Structure: Passive converter; needs no power, does no level conversion
- Locking: Threaded lock nuts on both sides of the DB9 socket (for a mating connector with screws)
- Cable fixing: Clamping at the box entry with a plastic cable clamp and 2 screws
- Box: Snap-fit plastic box; opens and closes easily without screws
- Operating temperature: -40C / 65C
- Material: Metal connector, plastic box and terminals
- Color: Black box, green terminals
- Cable diameter: Up to about 10mm
- Dimensions: 55mm x 34mm x 21mm
- Weight: 26gr
Usage information:
- Release the snaps of the box and remove the top cover. Pass the cable through the rear entry of the box, insert the wire ends into the terminals with the same numbers according to your device pinout and tighten the screws.
- Clamp the cable at the box entry with the plastic cable clamp and 2 screws, then close the cover onto its snaps. Plug the adapter into the DB9 male port of the device; if the mating connector has screws, tighten them into the lock nuts of the adapter.
- On an RS232 connection, on the computer (DTE) side pin 2 is RXD, pin 3 is TXD and pin 5 is GND. On RS485 / RS422 devices the pin assignment differs by manufacturer; connect according to the pin table in the device manual.
Areas of use:
- PLC and operator panel (HMI) serial port connections
- CNC machine and control unit serial port wiring
- Modem, router and console port connections
- Satellite receiver software (firmware) update cables
- Barcode reader and receipt printer serial connections
- Scale and weighing indicator data output
- Cash register and POS device serial port connections
- Inverter (frequency drive) and servo drive Modbus RTU communication
- RS485 / Modbus sensor and meter lines connected to a device
Precautions:
- This product is a female (holes) DB9; it plugs into a male (pins) DB9 port on the device. If your device port is female, a male adapter is needed.
- The adapter has threaded lock nuts, not screws. If the device port also has nuts, the two sides cannot be screwed together; the adapter only stays plugged in, and screw locking needs a mating connector with screws.
- It is a passive converter; it does not convert between RS232 and RS485, or between USB / TTL and a serial port.
- Do not use it on mains voltage (220V) lines or lines carrying more than 1A; it is for signal lines only.
- Make the connection while the devices are powered off. Insert the wire ends fully into the terminals; a bare wire can short circuit with the neighboring terminal.
