     The PT1000 Temperature Sensor is a waterproof platinum resistance (RTD) temperature sensor with a 4.7mm diameter, 25mm long steel probe at the tip, a threaded hexagonal fitting behind it and a 1.5m cable. The resistance of the sensing element is 1000Ω at 0°C and rises steadily with temperature at a coefficient of 3850ppm/K; it measures with class B accuracy in the 0°C - 105°C range.

     The probe is fixed with its threaded fitting into a 10mm mounting hole on a pipe, tank or boiler and measures while immersed in the liquid; it withstands 16bar pressure at 2m/s flow. The cable is 2-wire (red and white leads); the inner wires are AF200 0.12mm² teflon coated high temperature wires and the outer jacket is grey and insulated. The leads connect directly to the terminals of a thermostat, solar controller or temperature transmitter with a PT1000 input.

     It is suitable for monitoring water temperature and feeding a controller in hot water and heating installations: combi boilers, boilers, hot water tanks, thermosiphons, solar collectors and heat pump circuits. Because the PT1000 value of 1000Ω at 0°C is 10 times higher than a PT100, the error added by cable resistance is smaller.

Usage information:

• Connect the red and white leads to the PT1000 input terminals of the controller. If the device has an input type setting, select "PT1000"; if "PT100" is selected the reading will be wrong.
• To test the connection, measure the resistance between the leads: about 1078Ω at room temperature (about 20°C), 1000Ω at 0°C and about 1385Ω at 100°C.
• Screw the probe into the mounting hole with its fitting so that it is fully immersed in the liquid; wrap sealing tape on the thread to prevent leaks. Keeping the probe in the flow speeds up the measurement.
• If you need to extend the cable, solder and insulate the joint so that it cannot take in water; on long runs route the cable away from power and motor cables.

Precautions:

•  The measurement range is 0°C - 105°C. Do not use it above 105°C, e.g. in ovens or steam lines; the cable and the seal will be damaged.
•  This is a PT1000 sensor; it is not read correctly by devices that accept only PT100. Make sure your device has a PT1000 input.
•  The sensor is a passive resistor; do not apply supply voltage directly to its leads. Measurement is made by the PT1000 input of a device or a resistance measuring circuit.
•  Do not overtighten the fitting or bend the probe; if the steel probe is crushed the element inside is damaged.
•  The pressure rating is 16bar; do not use it in lines with higher pressure.
