12A Crocodile Banana Cable Pair 1 Meter
High Current Probe Multimeter Power Supply Test Measurement Cable
This product is a 1 meter long measuring cable pair made of two separate red and black cables, with a 4mm banana plug at one end and a 44mm insulated crocodile (alligator) clip at the other end. It is used for at most 1000V voltage and 12A current; thanks to its thick and flexible 18AWG cable it is suitable for carrying high current from a power supply to a load and for measuring current with a multimeter.
The bodies of the banana plugs are covered with non-slip ribbed plastic and there is a ribbed strain relief at the cable exit that prevents kinking. The body and the jaw sides of the large crocodile clips are covered with a thick plastic boot; only the toothed tip stays exposed, so the hand holding the clip does not touch the metal part. The clip opens about 10mm; it grips terminal block screws, battery terminals, thick cables and bus bar ends. The difference from the thin bonded 2A crocodile banana test cable: thicker cable, a large insulated clip and the 1000V 12A rating.
Key features:
12A current, 1000V voltage: It is used on high current lines such as power supply outputs, motors and batteries, and for current measurement with a multimeter.
Insulated 44mm crocodile clip: The clip body and jaw sides are covered with a plastic boot; the holding hand does not touch the metal part and the risk of a short circuit with neighboring points is reduced.
Thick 18AWG cable: The conductor cross section is larger than thin test cables; voltage drop and heating at high current are lower than with thin cables and the cable stays flexible.
Ribbed 4mm banana plug: The 4mm x 50mm plug fits the standard 4mm sockets of multimeters, power supplies and measuring instruments; the ribbed body does not slip when plugging and unplugging, and the sleeve at the cable exit prevents the cable from breaking.
Separate red and black cables: The two cables are independent of each other; the positive and negative ends can easily be connected to two points far from each other.

Usage information:
- Push the banana plugs fully into the 4mm sockets of the device: plug the red one into the positive (+) or measuring socket and the black one into the negative (COM / GND) socket.
- When measuring current move the red plug of the multimeter to the current (A) socket and connect the cable in series with the circuit; when the measurement is finished put the plug back into the voltage socket.
- Seat the crocodile clip fully on the point it grips; at high current gripping with only the tip of the clip heats the contact point.
Areas of use:
- Current, voltage and resistance measurement with a multimeter
- Load current measurement with an ammeter
- High current supply from a power supply to a load
- Battery voltage measurement and battery charging trials
- Temporary supply in DC motor and fan trials
- Connections between instruments on the lab bench
- Temporary connection to terminal blocks, bus bars and thick cable ends
- Fault finding and measurement in device repair
Precautions:
- 12A and 1000V are the upper limits. Keep the current below this in continuous use; a plug or clip heating up is a sign of a loose contact.
- The metal pin of the banana plug and the toothed tip of the clip are exposed. On a high voltage circuit make the connection while the device is off, then apply power.
- Do not measure voltage while the multimeter is in the current socket; the multimeter fuse blows and a device without a fuse is damaged.
- Remove the cable by holding the plug; pulling by the cable loosens the connection inside the plug.
