     The 12A Banana Banana Cable Pair consists of two 1 meter test leads, one red and one black, each with a 4mm male banana plug on both ends. The leads are 18AWG; they are rated for a maximum current of 12A and an insulation voltage of 1000V. The cable outer diameter is 4mm and the plug length including its body is about 66mm. The pair weighs 75gr in total.

     The plugs fit directly into the 4mm banana sockets of multimeters, laboratory power supplies, signal generators and experiment boards; since both ends are plugs, the leads connect the sockets of two devices or extend one banana socket next to another. The red lead is reserved for plus (+) and the black lead for minus (-) / common, which prevents connection mix-ups.

     Thanks to the thick 18AWG conductor, the voltage drop on the cable while carrying current from the power supply to the load is lower than on thin test leads. Usage information:

• Make the connection with the devices switched off: plug the red lead into the plus (+) socket and the black lead into the minus (-) or COM socket, then switch the device on.
• Push the plug fully into the socket; a half-inserted plug increases contact resistance and heats up at high current. When removing, pull by the plug body, not by the cable.
• Cable length affects voltage drop on current-carrying connections; if the power supply has no remote sense input, measure the voltage at the load terminals.

Precautions:

•  12A is the maximum current; keep the current below it in continuous use and remove a plug or cable that heats up. 1000V is the cable insulation rating; since the plugs are unshielded, it does not mean safe use at high voltage.
•  Do not touch the exposed metal tip while inserting or removing a plug on a live circuit.
