     This module is a 1.3 inch, square IPS TFT LCD display with 240x240 pixel resolution. With the ST7789 driver chip it shows 65K colors; thanks to the IPS panel, colors and contrast do not degrade when viewed from the side. Because it gives a high pixel density on a 23.4mm x 23.4mm active area, it shows sharp text, icons and graphics in a small size. The screen orientation is set to landscape or portrait in software.

     The module is driven over SPI through a 7-pin single-row connection: GND, VCC, SCL, SDA, RES, DC and BLK. There is no CS pin and the display only receives data (MISO is not used); 5 signal lines are enough for the connection. Supply and logic level are 3.3V. The backlight is turned on from the BLK pin and brightness is adjusted with a PWM signal. The blue board of about 39mm x 27mm has a mounting hole in each of its four corners; at about 6gr it fits into small enclosures such as watches, wristbands and handheld devices.

     It is used directly with ESP32, ESP8266, STM32 and other microcontrollers running at 3.3V; a level shifter is needed with 5V boards. This module has no SD card slot.

     Small and light board: About 39mm x 27mm size, about 6gr weight and four mounting holes let it be screwed into small enclosures.

Pin description:

• GND: Ground (supply -)
• VCC: 3.3V supply (+)
• SCL: SPI clock line (SCK)
• SDA: SPI data line (MOSI)
• RES: Reset (active low)
• DC: Data / command select
• BLK: Backlight control (high level: on)

Usage information:

• Connect GND to ground, VCC to 3.3V, SCL to the SPI SCK pin of the microcontroller, SDA to the SPI MOSI pin, and RES and DC to two digital pins. Connect the BLK pin to 3.3V or to a PWM pin for brightness control.
• Robiz test: The product works with the sample code at electropeak.com/learn/interfacing-1-3-inch-spi-240x240-oled-full-color-ips-display-module-with-arduino/. However, if no PWM signal is given to the BLK pin the backlight does not turn on and the image cannot be seen; in the sample code, give a PWM output in the setup section to the pin you connected BLK to (pin 6 in the example).
• In software using the ST7789 driver, the display must be defined as 240x240. Since there is no CS pin, the display cannot share the SPI bus with another SPI device; use a separate SPI bus for other SPI devices. On this display without a CS pin, SPI mode 3 is usually selected in the library; if the screen stays blank, try SPI mode 2.

Precautions:

•  Supply and logic level are 3.3V. Do not apply 5V to VCC; use a level shifter on the signal lines with boards running at 5V.
•  If the BLK pin is not activated the backlight does not turn on and no image is visible even though the display is working.
•  There is no CS pin; the display cannot share the SPI bus with other SPI devices at the same time.
•  The display glass is thin and the narrow connection strip (flex cable) on the lower edge is fragile; do not press on the display and do not bend the strip.
