     The 3.5 TFT LCD Module Touch is a 3.5 inch color TFT display with 480x320 pixel resolution showing 16 bit RGB 65K colors. A 4-wire resistive touch panel sits on the screen; with the supplied stylus or a fingertip you can press any point of the screen to control interfaces such as menus, buttons and sliders. The display driver is ILI9486 (ILI9488 in some production batches) and it is driven over an 8 bit parallel data bus; the parallel bus refreshes the screen faster than SPI displays of the same size.

     The module is built on a red PCB and is a shield type that plugs directly onto the board: its 28 pin (8+8+6+6) headers fit the Arduino UNO R3 and Mega2560 pin layout, no cables are needed. There is a Micro SD card slot on the board; image, font and log files can be kept on the card. The display works with Arduino Uno using the Glue_Demo_480x320 example of the MCUFRIEND_kbv library.

     The 73mm x 49mm active area shows much more information than small OLED and character LCDs; it suits thermostat, incubator, greenhouse and aquarium control panels that gather temperature, humidity, graphs and menus on one screen, weather stations and simple games.

Usage information:

• Plug the display onto the UNO R3 or Mega2560 board with the pin headers aligned; press on the PCB edge, not on the screen glass. Power the board from USB.
• Install the MCUFRIEND_kbv library and test the display with the Glue_Demo_480x320 example. The library reads the driver IC ID (ILI9486 / ILI9488) automatically.
• Before using the touch panel, run the touch calibration example in the library and write the resulting values into your own program.

Precautions:

•  The touch panel is resistive; it works by pressure and does not support multi-touch (two fingers). Do not press with sharp or metal tips.
•  The display has an 8 bit parallel interface and uses most of the pins on the UNO R3; few pins remain free for extra sensors and modules. If many pins are needed, use it with a Mega2560.
•  Libraries and wiring diagrams written for SPI 3.5 inch displays do not work with this display.
•  Align the pins without shifting when plugging in; wrong mounting can damage the display and the board.
