     The Pot Knob 16mm is a black bakelite turning knob that fits on the shaft of potentiometers, encoders and rotary switches with a 6mm shaft. The knob is 16mm in outer diameter and 11mm high; there is a silver coloured metal cap on the top surface and a white position indicator line on the side. It weighs 4gr.

     Inside the knob there is a 6mm shaft hole with a knurled surface; it is pressed onto the shaft of potentiometers with a knurled 6mm shaft such as the WH148. The shaft can additionally be clamped with a screw through the set screw hole on the side of the body; this way the knob turns without play on the shaft in devices that are adjusted often.

     The fluted outer surface allows turning with the fingers without slipping, and the white line shows the position of the shaft when looking at the panel. The silver capped bakelite design has the classic knob look used on the front panels of amplifiers, adjustable power supplies and measuring instruments.

Usage information:

• First fix the potentiometer to the panel with its nut; turn the shaft fully to the left, align the white indicator line of the knob with the start point of the panel scale, then press the knob straight onto the shaft.
• To keep the knob from having play on the shaft, clamp the shaft with a small screw through the hole on the side; do not overtighten the screw and strain the bakelite body.
• If the shaft is too long, shorten it by cutting so that the knob does not touch the panel and turns freely; the knob is 11mm high.

Precautions:

•  The knob is for a 6mm diameter shaft; it does not fit a 6.35mm (1/4 inch) shaft or a thin shaft such as 4mm.
•  Bakelite is hard but brittle; do not overtighten the side screw, do not drop the knob and do not hammer it onto the shaft.
•  Do not force the potentiometer shaft sideways while fitting the knob; the shaft and the potentiometer may be damaged.
