It is an optical sensor that produces 1000 pulses per full revolution. It is used for measuring parameters such as rotation speed, direction, angle, acceleration and travel distance. Based on this information we can perform various control operations precisely. It is used to understand the speed of moving systems and where the system is.
It can operate with DC 5-24V supply. The signals generated as the encoder shaft turns are counted with a microprocessor kit or circuit such as arduino and the number of rotations is found. The outputs are used by connecting them to an mcu pin with a pull up resistor. If the encoder ends are floating, you may not be able to measure properly with an oscilloscope. It would be appropriate to connect 2 pull up resistors to the supply and measure with the scope.
