     The CW1D-10A-T is an IEC 60320 C14 male type mains inlet socket with a built in EMI (electromagnetic interference) line filter. It carries up to 10A on 115V / 250V AC, 50/60Hz mains. It is screwed to the device enclosure; a standard power cable with a C13 end plugs into this socket, and the filtered mains is taken into the device from the 3 faston terminals on the back (L, N, earth). It is used on its own and does not need a separate filter board or external parts.

     Inside the metal case there is a 0.1uF X capacitor (Cx), a 2 x 0.3mH choke (L) and 2 x 3300pF Y capacitors (Cy); the values and the circuit diagram are printed on the product label. This filter reduces the high frequency noise coming from the mains into the device and the noise generated by the device (switching power supply, motor driver) going back to the mains. The socket side is LINE (mains), the faston terminals are the LOAD (device) side.

     It is used in mains powered enclosed devices such as power supplies, audio amplifiers, CNC and 3D printer control boxes, laboratory and measuring devices, as both the cable inlet and the noise filter in one part. It is screwed to the panel through 2 mounting holes.

Usage information:

• Place the socket in the cutout of the device enclosure and screw it through the 2 holes in the flange. The mains cable plugs into the C14 socket (LINE side); connect the cables going into the device to the faston terminals on the back (LOAD side).
• Route the line (L) and neutral (N) terminals to the device through the device fuse and switch; always connect the earth (E) terminal to the metal enclosure of the device and to the earth line. The Y capacitors of the filter send the common mode noise on line and neutral to earth; if earth is not connected this part of the filter does not work and the metal enclosure is not safe either.
• Use insulated cables with female faston ends of the right size for the terminals; check that the terminals are not loose.

Precautions:

•  The product works with mains voltage (220V AC). The connection must be made with the power off by a person who knows this work; the faston terminals must not be left exposed.
•  Earth connection is mandatory. The filter passes a small leakage current from line and neutral to earth (up to about 0.45mA); without earth the metal enclosure of the device can cause electric shock, and in installations with a residual current device take the total leakage current into account.
•  The socket has no fuse and no on / off switch; fit a suitable fuse and switch to the device separately.
•  Do not use it with loads above 10A; the socket and the choke heat up.
•  In medical devices in contact with patients the leakage current limits are very low; the product is not suitable for such use.
