     This product is a 10K NTC temperature sensor with a 100cm cable and a metal ring with a 4mm hole at its tip. The NTC element, with a resistance of 10kΩ (±1%) at 25°C and a B25/50 value of 3950K (±1%), is sealed with epoxy inside the sheath behind the ring. The ring is fixed to the surface to be measured with a screw or bolt; the sensor measures the temperature of that surface. At the other end of the cable there is a 2-pin plastic socket with 2.54mm pitch.

     The difference from the steel probe NTC is the mounting method: the probe type is immersed in liquid or fixed with tape, while this type is screwed to a heat sink, motor housing, metal box, pipe clamp or a connection point and does not move with vibration. An NTC is a non-polar resistor; the temperature is calculated by measuring the resistance between the two wires. It measures from about -20°C to +105°C; the upper limit is set by the PVC insulated cable.

     It is used with thermostat and controller boards with a 10K NTC input in applications that need surface measurement, such as heat sink and power device temperature, battery packs, motors, combi boiler and radiator pipes, air conditioners and heat pumps. For liquid immersion, steel probe types (50cm, 100cm, 200cm, 300cm, 5 meter, 10 meter) and an M8 thread type are also available in our store.

Key features:

     Screw-mounted ring tip: The ring with a 4mm hole is fixed to the surface with a screw. The sensor stays in tight contact with the measuring point and does not slip with vibration or movement.

     Surface temperature measurement: Heat passes from the screwed surface through the metal ring to the NTC element; it is suitable for measuring the temperature of solid surfaces such as heat sinks, motors and pipes.

     Standard 10K, B3950 value: 10kΩ (±1%) at 25°C and a B25/50 value of 3950K (±1%) are the values expected by thermostat boards with a 10K NTC input.

     Epoxy sealed element: The NTC element is potted with epoxy inside the sheath; it is protected against moisture and splashing water.

     100cm cable with plug-in socket: The 2-pin socket with 2.54mm pitch at the end of the cable plugs into a matching 2.54mm pitch NTC input on the board without soldering.

Usage information:

• Fix the ring tightly to the surface to be measured with a screw or bolt. For better heat transfer apply a thin layer of thermal paste between the ring and the surface.
• Plug the socket into the NTC input of the thermostat or controller board. The board must be set for a 10K NTC with B3950. On a board with an analog input, build a voltage divider by connecting the sensor in series with a fixed 10kΩ resistor; at 25°C the midpoint is half of the supply voltage.
• Fix the cable to the surface with a clamp or tie a few centimeters after the ring; this way, when the cable is pulled, the clamp takes the strain instead of the ring.

Precautions:

•  This type is intended to be screwed to a surface. If continuous measurement in liquid is needed, choose the steel probe NTC type.
•  The upper limit of the measuring range is about +105°C. On hotter surfaces such as ovens, exhausts or engine blocks the PVC cable and epoxy are damaged.
•  The metal ring conducts electricity. When fixing it to a live part (transistor tab, busbar and similar), place an insulating pad in between or fix it to an insulated point.
•  Use the sensor only with boards set for a 10K NTC with B3950. On an input expecting a different NTC value, the temperature reading is wrong.
•  Do not overtighten the screw and bend the ring; the joint between the ring and the sheath and the epoxy filling can be damaged.
