     The PH Electrode Probe E201-1C is a glass tip combination (composite) pH electrode that measures the pH value of liquids in the 0-14pH range. The measuring tip and the reference electrode are in the same body; the probe produces a small voltage (mV) depending on the pH value of the measured liquid. The zero point is 7±0.5pH at 25°C and the response time is shorter than 1 minute. The BNC connector at the end of the about 75cm cable plugs directly into pH meters with BNC input, pH controllers and pH measurement boards.

     The blue transparent plastic body is about 17cm long and 17.5mm in diameter; the sensitive glass tip is covered with a transparent protective cap when not measuring. The operating temperature is 0°C - 60°C. It is used as a spare or new probe for aquarium, hydroponic nutrient solution, pool water and laboratory measurements.

     The probe does not show a value by itself; its output is a very high impedance, low level signal. To read it, a pH meter with BNC input, a pH controller or a pH measurement board connected to a microcontroller is needed. For accurate measurement it is calibrated with pH buffer solutions.

Usage information:

• At first use, remove the protective cap gently and keep it aside. Rinse the white salt deposit on the tip with pure (deionized) water, then keep the tip in storage solution (KCl) for about 1 hour.
• Before measuring, make a two-point calibration with pH 7 and pH 4 (or pH 10) buffer solutions. The temperature of the buffer solution should be the same as the liquid to be measured.
• When measuring, immerse the glass tip and the porous junction next to it completely in the liquid; if there is an air bubble in the body, shake the probe gently like a thermometer. Rinse the tip with pure water between measurements and blot the excess water with lint-free paper without rubbing.
• When not in use, put a few drops of storage solution (KCl) into the protective cap and fit the cap; do not leave the glass tip dry.

Points to consider:

•  Only the probe is shipped, no electronic board is shipped with it. To read it with a microcontroller a pH measurement board with BNC input is needed separately.
•  The glass measuring tip is fragile; do not press it on hard surfaces, do not hit it and do not rub it when drying.
•  Do not let the glass tip dry out and do not store it in pure / distilled water for a long time; the measurement becomes slow and unstable.
•  The operating temperature is 0°C - 60°C. Continuous use in hot liquids and strong acid / base solutions shortens the life of the probe.
•  A pH probe is a consumable that ages over time. If the slope drops below 85% during calibration or the reading becomes unstable, clean the tip; if it does not improve, replace the probe.
