Max30102 is an integrated pulse oximeter and heart rate monitoring biosensor module. It contains a red led and an infrared led, a photodetector, optical components and low noise electronic circuits that suppress ambient light. It uses a separate supply for the internal leds: the primary power supply is 1.8V, and it supports 3.3V / 5V for the led drivers.
It can measure the heart rate and the oxygen level in the blood when attached to the finger, earlobe or wrist. Thanks to the standard I2C compatible communication interface, the collected data can be transferred to Arduino and similar microcontrollers. Leds with a special wavelength selected for oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO2) and hemoglobin (Hb) found in arterial blood.
The triple solderable pads on the back surface are used to select the pull-up level of the data bus. Depending on the master voltage of the pin, 1.8V or 3.3V is selected.
