     The 4 Ohm 3W Speaker is a round mini speaker with an internal magnet, 40mm (4cm) in diameter and about 20mm high. With 4Ω impedance and 3W rated power it connects directly to the speaker output of small amplifier boards and reproduces speech, music, warning and notification sounds clearly. It weighs about 15gr.

     The magnet sits inside the closed metal cup at the back of the speaker; since there is no exposed magnet outside, the speaker fits into narrow enclosures and has less magnetic effect on nearby parts. The black cone diaphragm is attached to the metal frame with a flexible surround; the windows on the sides of the frame let air flow behind the cone. Connection is made by soldering wires to the 2 solder tabs on the edge of the frame.

     Thanks to its small size it suits Bluetooth speaker boxes, internet radios, talking toys, doorbells, alarm and announcement systems and devices that give audible notifications. It can be used with mono or stereo amplifier modules delivering up to 3W (e.g. MAX98357, PAM8403).

Usage information:

• Solder wires to the two solder tabs of the speaker and connect them to the speaker output (+ and -) of the amplifier board. Heat the tab only briefly while soldering; long heating can damage the thin coil wires behind the tabs.
• In stereo use with two speakers, connect both speakers with the same polarity (+ tab to the amplifier + output); a speaker connected in reverse weakens the sound.
• When placing the speaker into a box or housing, open holes or a grille in front of it; separating front and rear sound inside a closed box strengthens the bass.

Things to consider:

•  Do not feed more than 3W of continuous power to the speaker. If you use a stronger amplifier, keep the volume low; excessive power heats the coil and deforms the cone.
•  The impedance is 4Ω. Make sure the amplifier supports a 4Ω load; do not connect it to an amplifier that only accepts 8Ω and higher loads.
•  The speaker does not produce sound on its own; an amplifier or an audio module with speaker output is required. Do not connect it directly to a signal pin of a controller board.
•  Do not press the cone or the flexible surround and do not touch them with sharp objects; a torn or dented cone distorts the sound.
•  It is a small diameter speaker and does not give deep bass. Use a larger speaker where strong bass is needed.
