Crocodile USB Test Cable
Alligator Lead Supply Tap Powerbank Adapter Computer Port Led Strip Fan Motor Breadboard Sensor Relay
This product is a 60cm test and power cable with a USB A male plug at one end and 2 crocodile clips, red and black, at the other end. It lets you easily take 5V DC power from a computer USB port, a USB adapter or a powerbank; the red clip is +5V and the black clip is GND (-).
No soldering or terminal block is needed: the clips are attached directly to the supply terminals of the circuit, battery holder contacts, pin headers or wire ends. This way breadboard circuits, leds, small fans and motors, relay and sensor boards are quickly tested with 5V. The cable has 2 cores and carries power only; it does not transfer data. The current capacity is up to 2A.
The cable is made only for transferring DC voltage; do not use it with AC systems. You must be careful against the damage that short circuits at the output could cause on the source you use (computer port, adapter, powerbank).
Key features:
5V supply from USB: 5V DC is taken from any USB A output such as a computer port, USB adapter or powerbank; no separate power supply is needed.
Solderless connection: The crocodile clips are attached directly to the circuit; when the test is over they are removed and leave no trace on the circuit.
Easy polarity marking: The red clip is +5V and the black clip is GND; since the cable is also red-black, polarity mix-ups are reduced.
2A current capacity: The cable carries up to 2A; the current that can be drawn is set by the current the USB source can supply.
Insulated clips: The clips have plastic covers; there is little exposed metal when holding them and using them side by side.

- Color: Red and black cable and clips, black USB plug
- Clip length: approximately 35mm
- Cable length: 60cm
Usage information:
- Connect the clips to the circuit first: attach the red clip to the + (5V) input of the circuit and the black clip to the GND (-) terminal. Check that the clips do not touch each other, then plug the USB plug into the source.
- The current drawn by the circuit must be less than the current the USB source can supply. A computer port and an adapter or powerbank do not supply the same current; for higher current use an adapter with 2A output.
- When you are done, first unplug the USB plug from the source, then remove the clips.
Applications:
- 5V supply for breadboard circuits
- 5V supply in the field and in the car with a powerbank
- Testing 5V leds and led strips
- Testing 5V fans and small DC motors
- Powering relay and sensor boards
- Measuring USB adapter and powerbank output voltage with a multimeter
- Fault finding and quick supply on the service bench
- Circuit experiments in school laboratories
- Testing small devices that can run on 5V from USB instead of batteries
Points to consider:
- Do not let the clips touch each other. A short circuit at the output can damage the computer USB port, adapter or powerbank; if possible, do your tests with an adapter or powerbank.
- The current a computer USB port can supply is limited (USB 2.0 port 500mA, USB 3.0 port 900mA). Do not power a circuit that draws more current from a computer port.
- The cable is for 5V DC only; do not use it with AC voltage or the mains. A USB output gives 5V: it does not run higher voltage loads such as 12V led strips, 12V fans or motors.
- The cable is not suitable for currents above 2A; at high current for a long time the cable and clips can heat up.
- Do not charge a lithium battery directly with this cable; a charging circuit is needed for lithium battery charging.
