JGY370 5Rpm 12V Worm Gear DC Motor Self-Locking 6mm D Shaft
Very Slow Rotation High Torque 90 Degree Output Curtain Shutter Rotating Display Damper Valve Window Door Lock Towel Dispenser Coffee Machine
The JGY370 5Rpm is a worm gear DC motor that turns 5 revolutions per minute on a 12V supply. There is a 90 degree angle between the motor and the output shaft: the 24mm diameter 370 type brushed motor is attached to the side of the gearbox, and the 6mm D-cut output shaft comes out perpendicular from the front face of the gearbox. Thanks to its very low speed it delivers high torque of up to about 25kg.cm - 26kg.cm; one full turn takes about 12 seconds.
The worm gear structure makes the gearbox self-locking: when the motor stops or the power is cut, the load cannot turn the output shaft back. This is why it is preferred in mechanisms that must hold their position without a brake, such as curtains, shutters, dampers, valves and door latches. The rotation direction of the two-terminal motor is changed by reversing its polarity.
The gearbox has a metal housing and is fixed to a bracket or body with the 4 M3 screw holes on its front face. The shaft end has an M3 threaded hole, so an arm, pulley or turntable can be screwed to the shaft (this feature may be missing in some batches, see Precautions). The total length is 80.5mm. This version has no encoder; if position reading is needed, choose the JGY-370B version with encoder.
Key features:
Very slow and strong rotation: It turns 5 revolutions per minute at 12V; one full turn takes about 12 seconds. The low speed turns into torque of up to about 25kg.cm - 26kg.cm; heavy lids and turntables move slowly and under control.
Self-locking: The worm gear cannot be back-driven by the load. When the motor stops, the shaft holds its position; no extra brake is needed for a curtain, damper or valve.
90 degree angled output: The output shaft is perpendicular to the motor axis; the motor body lies along the side of the mechanism and fits into narrow places.
Screw-mountable 6mm D shaft: The 14mm long 6mm D-cut shaft fits set-screw couplings and pulleys; the M3 threaded hole at the shaft end fixes the part axially.
Easy mounting: It is screwed directly to a bracket or flat panel with the 4 M3 holes (32.9mm x 18.2mm spacing) on the front face of the gearbox.
Features:
- Product type: Worm gear brushed DC motor, 90 degree angled output
- Model: JGY370 (label: JGY-370 DC12V 5RPM)
- Rated voltage: 12V (runs between about 6V - 18V; speed drops at lower voltage)
- Speed: 5Rpm (12V, no load; 5 turns per minute, slows down as load increases)
- Torque: up to about 25kg.cm - 26kg.cm (seller value)
- Self-locking: Yes; the load cannot turn the shaft back when power is cut
- No-load current: about 60mA (12V)
- Load current: about 0.5A - 1A depending on load (12V)
- Rotation direction: Bidirectional; direction changes when polarity is reversed
- Motor: 24mm diameter 370 type brushed DC motor, 2 solder terminals
- Output shaft: 6mm diameter D-cut (flat 5.5mm), 14mm length
- Shaft end: M3 threaded hole (may be missing in some batches)
- Mounting: 4 M3 screw holes on the gearbox front face, 32.9mm x 18.2mm spacing
- Gearbox: Metal housing, metal gear worm gearbox
- Encoder: None (encoder version: JGY-370B)
- Operating temperature: about -20°C - 80°C
- Material and color: Metal body, silver color
- Dimensions: Gearbox 46mm x 32mm x 22mm; motor 24mm diameter x 31mm; total length 80.5mm
- Weight: about 150gr - 165gr
Usage information:
- Connect the two solder terminals of the motor to the output of a DC motor driver. To change direction, reverse the polarity or use an H-bridge driver; speed can be reduced with PWM.
- Screw the gearbox to a bracket or panel through the 4 M3 holes on its front face. Choose screws that do not go too deep into the gearbox.
- Fit the pulley, arm or coupling on the 6mm D shaft with the set screw on the flat. If the M3 threaded hole is present at the shaft end, also fix the part axially with a screw and washer.
- Because the speed is 5Rpm, one full turn takes about 12 seconds. In mechanisms with an end position such as curtains or shutters, stop the motor with a limit switch.
Areas of use:
- Motorized curtain and roller blind mechanisms
- Shutter and window opening mechanisms
- Rotating showcases and product display turntables
- Ventilation damper and flap control
- Motorized valve opening and closing
- Door lock and latch mechanisms
- Towel dispensers and paper feed mechanisms
- Coffee machine and vending mechanisms
- Slow rotating camera and sensor positioning mechanisms
Precautions:
- The worm gearbox is self-locking. Do not try to turn the shaft by hand or by force; the gears will be damaged.
- A motor loaded until the shaft stalls draws high current and heats up. Use limit switches in mechanisms with end positions and choose the driver and supply according to the stall current.
- Do not run it above 18V; higher voltage shortens the life of the motor and gearbox.
- If you will connect to the shaft with an M3 screw, confirm this feature by asking us before ordering; in some batches the shaft end may not have a threaded hole.
- This motor has no encoder; position or turn count cannot be read. If position feedback is needed, choose the JGY-370B version with encoder.
- It cannot be driven directly from a controller board pin; use a motor driver board or a transistor driver.
