20cm 10 Pin IDC Flat Ribbon Cable 2.54mm Pitch
Programming / Data Cable JTAG ISP AVR ARM
The 20cm 10 Pin IDC Flat Cable is a ready-made ribbon cable with 2x5 female IDC sockets on both ends and 2.54mm socket pitch. The 1st wire of the 10 wire grey flat cable is marked with a red stripe; the connection is straight, meaning pin 1 on one end goes to pin 1 on the other end. The sockets plug directly onto a 2.54mm 2x5 male pin header or a shrouded (keyed) header; no soldering or crimping tool is needed.
The most common use of the cable is 10 pin ISP programming: the 10 pin output of AVR programmers such as USBasp is connected with this cable to the 10 pin ISP header on the target board. It is also used with JTAG programmers that use the same 2x5 2.54mm header, for the LCD display connection of 3D printers (display headers on the RAMPS board) and for 10 wire signal connections between two boards. The cable is 20cm long; the wire gauge is 28AWG.
This cable differs from the 1.27mm pitch 10 pin 15cm debug cable on robiz.net by its socket pitch (2.54mm), and from the 40 wire colored 1 meter ribbon cable sold without connectors by having ready sockets on both ends. It does not fit 1.27mm pitch (Cortex Debug) headers.
Key features:
Ready socketed 2x5 cable: 10 pin female IDC sockets are fitted on both ends. The cable plugs onto a 2.54mm 2x5 header straight out of the box.
Straight (1-1) connection: Each pin on one end goes to the same numbered pin on the other end; the pin order does not change between programmer and target board.
Red striped 1st wire: The red stripe on the grey cable shows pin 1; together with the key on the socket it prevents reverse plugging.
ISP and JTAG fit: Fits 10 pin ISP (USBasp, AVR) and 10 pin 2.54mm JTAG headers.
Comfortable desk connection: The 20cm cable is long enough to keep the programmer on the desk and the target board next to it.
Features:
- Product type: Ready-made flat (ribbon) cable with sockets on both ends
- Model: 20cm 10 Pin IDC Flat Cable

Usage information:
- Before plugging, find pin 1 on the boards (1, triangle or square pad next to the header); bring the red striped wire of the cable to the pin 1 side. On a shrouded header the key of the socket fits into the slot of the header.
- For programming with USBasp, one end of the cable plugs into the 10 pin output of the programmer and the other end into the 10 pin ISP header of the target board; if the target board uses 6 pin ISP, a 10 pin to 6 pin adapter is needed.
- When removing the socket, hold the socket body, not the cable, and pull straight; pulling the cable loosens the IDC blades.
Areas of use:
- AVR ISP programming with USBasp
- 10 pin JTAG programmer connection
- Debugging connection
- 3D printer LCD display connection
- RAMPS board display header connection
- Board to board 10 wire signal connection
- Front panel button and LED board connection
- Test and experiment setup connection
Precautions:
- This cable is for 2.54mm pitch headers; it does not fit 1.27mm pitch (Cortex Debug) 10 pin headers.
- A reversed cable connects supply and GND pins to the wrong place; the programmer or board can be damaged. Check the red wire and pin 1 direction every time you plug it in.
- On 3D printer boards the pin order of the display headers can differ by board and display; check the connection in the board documentation before plugging.
- The thin 28AWG wires are for signals; do not pass more than 1A per wire and do not use it as a power cable.
