     P50-B1 is a thin spring loaded test probe (pogo pin) with a 0.68mm barrel diameter, 16.35mm overall length and a sharp needle tip. The pack contains 100 probes. The probe consists of 2 moving spring loaded parts: the thin plunger with a 0.48mm sharp tip moves back and forth inside the gold coloured outer cylindrical barrel that holds the spring, and the tip contacts the target surface with spring pressure. The plunger travels about 2.65mm, presses on the pad with about 75gr spring force and carries up to 3A.

     Unlike pin headers, P50-B1 probes are spring loaded; they make contact by simply pressing on the board without soldering and improve contact reliability. They are used in solderless programming, firmware loading and test fixtures. Worn or aged probes are easily replaced with this pack.

     The P50 series has a thinner barrel than the P75 and P100 series; probes can be lined up side by side on dense pads with 1.27mm (50mil) pitch. The needle tip makes point contact with small test points, thin pads and via openings. The probe fits into an R50 series receptacle or can be soldered by its barrel directly to the fixture PCB.

Usage information:

• Insert the probe into an R50 series receptacle or place it in a hole of suitable diameter on the fixture PCB and solder it by the barrel. Keep the heat short and do not let solder flow into the front opening where the plunger enters; the spring and plunger may jam.
• Adjust the fixture so that the plunger does not bottom out at the end of its approx. 2.65mm stroke when the probes press on the pads; part of the spring travel should remain free. This keeps the contact pressure and does not strain the probe.
• Measure the pad centres and place the probes with the same pitch; in a programming jig compare the order of the VCC, GND and signal lines with the pads on the board.

Precautions:

•  P50-B1 is the thin series (barrel 0.68mm, length 16.35mm). Do not confuse it with P75 (barrel 1.02mm) and P100 (33.35mm) series probes and their receptacles; they are not interchangeable.
•  The needle tip is very thin; it bends easily under side load and may mark the pad. Press the probe straight onto the pad and do not slide the board under the probe.
•  The sharp tip is for pads, test points and via openings; a concave tip probe is better for component leads and connector pins.
•  Do not exceed the 3A limit; the probe is only a contact element, a short circuit or a high current pulse damages the spring and the plating.
