     It is an industrial type sensor that can be used to detect metal objects contactlessly from a distance of 2mm. It operates with DC 6-36V voltage. When it comes near a metal surface, the change can be followed from the output signal terminal. As shown in some of the listing images, the output signal is brought down to a suitable level by using a voltage divider for various voltages. And this signal can be monitored digitally.

Difference between NPN and PNP sensors: NPN sensors give negative output from their signal terminals, PNP sensors give positive output.
 
Difference between NO and NC contacts: In NO (normally open) inductive sensors, no data normally comes from the signal terminal. However, when a metal object approaches, you get data output. In NC (normally closed) inductive sensors, data output is continuous. When a metal object approaches, the data is cut off.
