     The TSOP48 to DIP48 Converter Adapter is used to read, write and copy TSOP48 flash memory ICs with 48 leads and 0.5mm lead pitch on programmers that have a 48-pin DIP socket. The top side of the board carries a 48-pin open-top (OTS48-0.5) ZIF socket, and the bottom side carries DIP48 male pins in 2 x 24 rows with 2.54mm pitch and 15.24mm (600mil) row spacing. The IC is placed into the socket without soldering, and the adapter plugs into the programmer socket like a DIP48 IC.

     The socket accepts standard TSOP48 ICs with a 12mm x 18.4mm body (12mm x 20mm including leads). Pressing the lid opens the contacts; when the IC is seated and the lid is released, all 48 leads are gripped at once. The board is marked with a "PIN1" arrow and the prints "RT-TSOP48" and "TSOP48-40-32"; pin 1 of the IC is placed according to this mark. The adapter is a passive part: it needs no power supply, driver or separate software; programming is done by the software of the programmer it is plugged into.

     It is widely used in electronics service work to back up, repair or copy the firmware of TSOP48 flash memories in devices such as modems, routers, satellite receivers, television main boards, printers and car stereos. It measures 61mm x 22mm and weighs 15gr.

Usage information:

• Insert the adapter into the 48-pin socket of the programmer so that the "PIN1" mark on the board faces the pin 1 side of the programmer, then lock the socket lever.
• Press the lid of the OTS48 socket to open the contacts; seat the TSOP48 IC with its pin 1 facing the "PIN1" mark and release the lid slowly.
• Select the exact part number of the IC in the programmer software and check that the IC is recognised correctly with an ID read before reading or writing.

Precautions:

•  This adapter has a DIP48 output; it does not fit fully into programmers with a 40-pin socket (e.g. TL866II Plus, T48). Check that your programmer has a 48-pin socket.
•  If the IC or the adapter is inserted in reverse, the IC and the programmer may be damaged. Before inserting, compare the "PIN1" mark with the dot/notch mark on the IC.
•  The programmer software must support the IC. Some programmers require their own dedicated TSOP48 adapter for NOR and NAND flash; check the programmer's support list before use.
•  TSOP48 leads are thin with 0.5mm pitch; do not force the IC into the socket, a bent lead causes contact problems and short circuits.
