XL4015 5A Adjustable Step-Down Power Module with Voltmeter
Buck DC-DC Converter Digital Display Power Supply 24V 12V Vehicle Truck Camera Led Strip Router Radio Fan Battery Laboratory
The XL4015 5A Step Down Converter with Voltmeter is a DC-DC (buck) module that lowers a 4V-38V DC input to a fixed output voltage adjustable between 1.25V-36V. The XL4015 IC runs at a fixed 180kHz frequency; it delivers up to 5A and at most 75W output power, with efficiency up to 96%. The output voltage is set precisely with the blue multi-turn potentiometer on the board.
The 3 digit 7 segment voltmeter on the board shows the input or output voltage selected with the right button; the IN and OUT LEDs show which one is displayed. The left button turns the display on and off. The selection is kept in memory even after power loss, and the voltmeter can be calibrated against a multimeter with the buttons. So the output voltage can be set and monitored without a separate meter.
Input and output are connected with screw terminals. It has over temperature shutdown, current limiting and output short circuit protection; there is no input reverse polarity protection. It is used in many places, from powering 12V devices in a 24V vehicle and getting 5V and 3.3V from a 12V adapter to an adjustable bench power supply.
Key features:
Built-in voltmeter: The 3 digit display shows input or output voltage in the 4V-40V range with ±0.1V error; the right button selects input/output, the left button turns the display off.
Wide adjustment range: Any output voltage between 1.25V-36V can be obtained from a 4V-38V input; the input must be at least 1.5V higher than the output.
Output up to 5A and 75W: The XL4015 IC delivers up to 5A; for continuous use staying below 4.5A and adding extra cooling above 50W is recommended.
Calibratable display: The input and output voltage readings can be corrected with the buttons to match a multimeter; settings are kept after power loss.
Protection circuits: It shuts the output down at over temperature, limits current and protects itself at an output short circuit.
Features:
- Product type: Adjustable DC-DC step down (buck) voltage regulator module with digital voltmeter
- IC: XL4015, 180kHz fixed frequency PWM buck converter
- Input voltage: 4V-38V DC (must not exceed 38V)
- Output voltage: 1.25V-36V DC adjustable (input must be at least 1.5V above output)
- Output current: up to 5A (with cooling); below 4.5A recommended for continuous use, about 3A without heatsink
- Output power: max 75W (extra cooling required above 50W)
- Efficiency: up to 96%
- Voltmeter: 3 digit 7 segment LED display, 4V-40V, error ±0.1V
- Display selection: Right button input/output voltage (IN / OUT LED), left button turns the display on/off; the selection is kept after power loss
- Voltmeter calibration: Input and output readings can be corrected separately with the buttons
- Adjustment: Blue multi-turn potentiometer
- Load regulation: ≤0.8% (input 24V, output 12V, load 1A - 4.5A)
- Line regulation: ≤0.8% (output 12V 4A, input 18V - 32V)
- Protections: Over temperature shutdown, current limiting, output short circuit protection (limit current about 8A)
- Input reverse polarity protection: None (add a high current series diode at the input if needed)
- Power indicator: LED
- Connection: IN+ / IN- input and OUT+ / OUT- output screw terminals
- Operating temperature: -40°C - 85°C
- Material and colour: Blue PCB, mounting hole in 4 corners
- Dimensions: 66mm x 39mm x 18mm
- Weight: 30gr
Usage information:
- Connect the supply + to the IN+ terminal and - to IN-; connect the powered device to OUT+ and OUT-. Do not reverse the polarity; the module has no input reverse polarity protection.
- Set the output voltage before connecting the device: light the OUT LED with the right button and watch the output voltage on the display while turning the blue multi-turn potentiometer. If the output stays equal to the input, turn the potentiometer 10-20 full turns; adjustment only starts then.
- Display calibration: while the OUT (or IN) LED is lit, hold the right button longer than 2 seconds; the display and LED blink. The right button increases the value, the left button decreases it (1-5 presses may be needed for a 0.1V change). After matching the multimeter value, hold the right button again longer than 2 seconds; the setting is kept after power loss.
- If the display is not needed, turn it off with the left button; the selection stays in memory.
Areas of use:
- Powering 12V devices in 24V vehicles and trucks (24V to 12V)
- Getting 5V and 3.3V from a 12V adapter
- Security camera and recorder power
- Led strip and led lighting power
- Router, modem and network device power
- Radio and portable device power
- Lowering voltage to set the speed of fans and small DC motors
- Getting 12V and 5V in 24V battery systems
- Adjustable bench laboratory power supply
- Powering devices in solar panel and battery systems
Precautions:
- The input voltage must not exceed 38V; overvoltage damages the IC. Do not connect a 36V battery (41V-43V when fully charged) to the input.
- There is no input reverse polarity protection; reversing the polarity destroys the module. Add a high current series diode at the input if needed.
- The module heats up at high current and power. Stay below 4.5A for continuous use; above about 3A without heatsink and above 50W use an extra heatsink or fan.
- The input voltage must be at least 1.5V higher than the output voltage; otherwise the output cannot hold the set value.
- Do not adjust the output voltage with the device connected; set it with no load first, then connect the device.
