Multiplexing and Selecting Multiplexer Demultiplexer

      The 74HC4051 IC contains 8 bidirectional switches. Addressing is done with the address selection pins. A connection is established with the Z pin by selecting among the 8 switches. It can transfer analog and digital signals bidirectionally. A signal on the common Z pin can be transferred over 8 switches. Or 8 inputs can be selected optionally and read from the common Z pin. 

     When used as a multiplexer, you can transfer the common ( Z ) pin to any output pin. For example, by connecting one tx pin to the rx pin of 8 separate ICs, you can communicate with these devices.

     When used as a selector, there is the possibility of reading the signals connected to 8 input pins. For example, 8 separate sensors can be read with a common pin.
