Bnc Crocodile Cable
Oscilloscope and Signal Generator Probe
The BNC Crocodile Cable is a test lead of about 1 meter total length with a BNC male (Q9) plug on one end and two crocodile (alligator) clips, red and black, on the other end. The main section of the cable is a 75 Ohm, 4mm thick 3C-2V coaxial cable; "3C-2V 75 OHM COAXIAL CABLE" is printed on the cable. After the molded splitter body, the coaxial cable splits into two thin red and black leads of 2.5mm thickness, each ending in an insulated crocodile clip of about 40mm.
The BNC plug fits the BNC input of an oscilloscope, a signal or function generator or a frequency counter and is locked with a quarter turn. The red clip is connected to the inner conductor of the BNC (signal), the black clip to the outer shell of the BNC (ground). This way the signal of a point in the circuit is taken to the oscilloscope, or the generator output is connected to the circuit with clips, without holding a probe tip.
It is a 1x connection lead without attenuation; the measured signal goes to the instrument as it is. It is suitable for monitoring low and medium frequency signals, feeding a generator output to a circuit and quick measurements on the bench. The upper limit given by sellers is 500V peak voltage and 2.5A.
Key features:
Keeps your hands free: The two crocodile clips are attached to the measuring point and GND; long measurements are made without holding a probe tip, and the generator output stays fixed on the circuit.
Standard BNC plug: The BNC male (Q9) plug locks with a quarter turn; it fits the BNC inputs of oscilloscopes, signal generators and frequency counters.
Coaxial cable: The signal is carried by a 75 Ohm, 4mm thick 3C-2V coaxial cable; the outer braid of the cable protects the signal from surrounding interference.
Ends that do not mix up: The red clip is the signal end and the black clip is the ground end; the connection direction is not mixed up.
Comfortable working distance: About 1 meter of total cable easily reaches the circuit from the instrument on the bench.

Usage information:
- Push the BNC plug onto the BNC input of the instrument with the slots of the plug aligned to the pins of the input, and lock it by turning a quarter turn clockwise. To remove it, turn it the other way and pull.
- First attach the black clip to the GND point of the circuit, then attach the red clip to the point to be measured or to receive the signal.
- On the oscilloscope, set the probe setting of the channel this cable is connected to 1x. If the channel stays at 10x, the voltage shown on the screen is 10 times the real value.
Application areas:
- Frequency and period measurement with a frequency counter
- Connecting the output of a function or signal generator to a circuit
- Laboratory, school and university electronics experiments
- Fault finding by monitoring the signal at circuit points
- Quick measurements in repair and service workshops
- Signal monitoring on audio amplifiers and audio circuits
- Monitoring PWM, clock and communication signals in microcontroller circuits
- Observing sensor outputs with an oscilloscope
- Comparing the generator signal and the circuit output on two oscilloscope channels with two cables
Things to consider:
- The black clip is connected to the ground of the oscilloscope through the outer shell of the BNC. Connecting the black clip to a point other than ground in a circuit directly connected to the mains (non isolated) causes a short circuit; the instrument and the circuit can be damaged.
- 500V peak and 2.5A are seller values; the cable has no measurement category (CAT) rating. Do not use it for measuring 220V mains voltage.
- It is a 1x lead without attenuation and its ends are not terminated; use a 10x oscilloscope probe for high frequency (above a few MHz) and high voltage measurements.
- The cable is 75 Ohm; it is not suitable for high frequency measurements that require 50 Ohm impedance matching.
