50cm RG316 BNC Male Male Cable
50ohm Coaxial Extension Connection Oscilloscope Laboratory Test Equipment GSM GPS Navigation Wireless Communication Satellite Aviation
Before buying, make sure that its connectors are suitable for your device.
This product is a 50cm long RG316 coaxial connection cable with a BNC male connector on both ends. It has 50ohm impedance; it connects two devices with BNC female sockets such as an oscilloscope, signal generator, frequency counter and spectrum analyzer, or a device and a test setup. The BNC connector locks with a quarter turn; it does not come out of the socket even when the cable is pulled and can be connected and disconnected again and again.
RG316 is a thin, flexible coaxial cable with an outer diameter of about 2.5mm, PTFE (teflon) dielectric, braided shield and FEP outer jacket. It withstands high temperatures and is easy to route between instruments on the bench. The points where the cable enters the connectors are supported with black heat shrink tubing.
The 50cm length is enough to connect instruments on the same bench without excess cable; a short cable attenuates the signal less: the loss of this cable is about 0.45dB at 1GHz. The usable frequency is limited by the BNC connector; such cables are mostly rated up to 3GHz. Unlike the SMA versions of the same RG316 cable, this cable is meant for the BNC sockets that are common on measuring instruments.
Key features:
BNC male on both ends: Both ends of the cable are BNC male; it plugs directly into the BNC female sockets of devices such as oscilloscopes, signal generators and frequency counters, no adapter needed.
Quarter turn locking: The BNC connector is pushed in and locked with a quarter turn; it connects and disconnects much faster than threaded connectors and does not come loose once locked.
50ohm RG316 coaxial: Suitable for 50ohm RF and measurement lines; VSWR is ≤1.5 and, due to the BNC connector limit, it is used up to 3GHz (some manufacturers state 4GHz).
Thin, flexible and heat resistant: The cable with about 2.5mm outer diameter and PTFE dielectric bends easily and works between -55°C / +150°C.
Short, low loss connection: The 50cm length is enough for bench connections; the loss is about 0.45dB at 1GHz and the weight is 20gr.

Usage information:
- Push the BNC male end into the device's BNC female socket so that the two lugs of the socket enter the slots on the connector body, and turn it clockwise a quarter turn until it locks. To remove, first turn it a quarter turn the other way, then pull; do not pull by the cable.
- Do not bend the cable sharply at the connector; make the bend after the end of the heat shrink tubing. On the bench, place the cable so that it is not crushed under instrument feet or lids.
- When connecting a signal generator to an oscilloscope at high frequency, if the oscilloscope input is 1Mohm, terminate the line with a 50ohm terminator or with the oscilloscope's 50ohm input setting; otherwise the amplitude and waveform may appear wrong because of reflections.
Applications:
- Connection between signal generator and oscilloscope
- Frequency counter and counter inputs
- Spectrum analyzer input connection
- Short connections between laboratory measuring instruments
- Radio and RF transceiver test setups
- SDR receiver and antenna connection (BNC socket)
- Antenna extension with BNC sockets
- Carrying trigger and sync (clock) signals
- Test fixture and measurement panel connections
Precautions:
- Before buying, make sure that its connectors are suitable for your device. Both ends of the cable are BNC male; it only fits BNC female sockets. It does not fit SMA, TNC or N type sockets without an adapter.
- The cable is 50ohm. In 75ohm BNC systems used for camera (CCTV) and video lines it fits mechanically, but the impedance difference causes signal loss and reflections; use 75ohm cable on these lines.
- This cable is not an oscilloscope probe; it is not connected to the circuit with a tip and gives no 10x attenuation. Do not connect high voltage circuits directly to the oscilloscope with this cable.
- BNC RG316 cables are mostly rated up to 3GHz (some manufacturers state 4GHz); at higher frequencies loss and reflections increase. For above 3GHz an RG316 cable with SMA connectors is more suitable.
