RG316 50cm SMA Male Female Cable
RF Extension Cable 50 Ohm 0-6Ghz Coaxial Wifi Gsm Gprs Antenna Modem Lora Helium Wireless Communication
This product is a 50cm RG316 coaxial extension cable with an SMA male connector on one end and a bulkhead (panel mount) SMA female connector with nut on the other. It has 50ohm impedance and works from DC to 6GHz; it carries the antenna signal of Wifi, GSM / 4G, GPS and LoRa bands 50cm away from the device. The connectors are gold plated and the cable entries are protected with black heat shrink tubing.
The SMA female end is made to be fixed to an enclosure or panel wall with the nut and washer on its body. The male end of the cable plugs into the SMA female socket of the module inside the enclosure and the antenna connects to the female end outside, so the antenna is moved outside the box. The same cable is also used as a plain extension cable to move the antenna away from the device to a position with better reception.
RG316 is a thin and flexible coaxial cable with an outer diameter of about 2.5mm; it bends easily in tight enclosures. Every cable length adds some signal loss: this 50cm cable loses about 0.45dB at 1GHz and about 0.8dB at 3GHz. Before buying, always check whether the socket on your device and antenna is SMA or RP-SMA.
Key features:
Panel mount female end: The SMA female connector is fixed to the enclosure wall with a nut and washer; the antenna stays outside the box while the cable stays fixed inside.
Male - female extension: The SMA male end plugs into the SMA female socket of the device and an SMA male antenna plugs into the female end of the cable; the distance grows by 50cm.
DC-6GHz, 50ohm: Used on 50ohm RF lines from 433MHz LoRa up to 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz Wifi; VSWR is ≤1.5.
Thin and flexible RG316: The cable with an outer diameter of about 2.5mm is routed easily in tight enclosures; the 50cm cable weighs 15gr.
Gold plated connectors: Gold plated contact surfaces resist oxidation; the cable entries are supported with heat shrink tubing.

Usage information:
- For panel mounting, drill a hole in the enclosure large enough for the SMA female body, pass the female end through from the inside and tighten the washer and nut from the outside; then plug the male end into the SMA female socket of the module inside the enclosure.
- Screw SMA connectors on by hand without cross threading and tighten with your fingers; do not overtighten with a wrench. Do not bend the cable sharply at the connector; start the bend after the end of the heat shrink.
- Keep the cable as short as possible when extending an antenna; if you need more than 50cm, use one long cable instead of chaining several extension cables, every extra joint adds loss.
Application areas:
- Moving the antenna of an RF module inside an enclosure to the outside (enclosure feedthrough)
- Wifi module and network card antenna extension
- GSM / 4G modem and GPRS module antenna connection
- GPS receiver antenna connection
- LoRa and LoRaWAN gateway, LoRa module antenna connection
- Drone telemetry and RC receiver antenna connection
- Video transmitter (5.8GHz) antenna extension
- SDR receiver antenna connection
- Communication devices mounted in panels and outdoor boxes
Precautions:
- Before buying, be sure to check that the connectors are suitable for you. An SMA male connector has a pin in the center, an SMA female has a hole in the center. It is not compatible with the RP-SMA (reverse polarity) sockets common on routers and network cards.
- Every cable and every extra joint weakens the signal a little. A 50cm cable loses about 0.7dB at 2.4GHz; do not choose a longer cable than needed, especially for weak GPS and long range LoRa links.
- A transmitter module should be operated with the antenna connected. Running a transmitter without an antenna on the cable end can damage the output stage of some modules.
- Do not overtighten the panel nut and do not twist the cable while tightening the connector; the cable can break inside the connector.
- The bulkhead female end is not waterproof; seal the enclosure entry separately for outdoor use.
