     The HCX-20-D23 is a wireless charging transmitter module compatible with the Qi standard. It consists of a black control board and a flat charging coil of about 49mm diameter connected to it. The board is powered with 5V 2A, 9V 1.67A or 12V 1.5A; it wirelessly charges a Qi enabled phone or device placed on the coil with 5W, 7.5W, 10W and at most 15W. The module selects the power level itself by communicating with the receiving device.

     Thanks to its thin coil, the module can be hidden under surfaces such as a desk, nightstand, coffee table or car console; it charges through non-metallic materials such as wood, glass, acrylic and plastic. The charging distance is at most 8mm; for the best result the cover between the coil and the phone should be 2mm - 4mm thick. The board and the coil have mounting holes.

     It has FOD (foreign object detection) protection that detects metal objects such as keys or coins placed on the coil, as well as short circuit, over current and over voltage protections. The red LED shows power, the blue LED shows charging; when a metal object is detected both LEDs flash as a warning. Standby consumption is about 50mW.

Usage information:

• Connect the supply positive to the VIN pad and the negative to the GND pad. For 15W charging use a source giving at least 9V 1.67A or 12V 1.5A; with a 5V supply the charging power drops.
• Place the coil just under the surface where the phone will be placed, behind a non-metallic material. The best result is obtained with a 2mm - 4mm thick cover; do not exceed 8mm. Align the phone's charging coil with the center of the module coil.
• The red LED shows that power is present, the blue LED shows that charging is in progress. If both LEDs flash together, there is a metal object on the coil; remove it.

Precautions:

•  The coil cannot charge through a metal surface; a metal cover, a metal desk or a metal object on the coil stops charging.
•  15W cannot be obtained with a 5V supply. 15W requires a 9V or 12V supply.
•  The supply must not exceed 12V. A vehicle battery line can rise above 14V while the engine is running; do not connect the module directly to the vehicle line, use a converter with a fixed 12V output.
•  The phone determines the charging power; 15W is the maximum. Most phones charge at a lower power (iPhone models usually 7.5W).
•  A thick case, a case with metal parts or a magnetic case may block or slow down charging.
•  The board and coil get warm during charging. Leave ventilation when used in a closed box; connect the supply polarity correctly.
