JH-D400X-R4 4 Axis Joystick
With Button 10k Potentiometer Ptz 4D Automation Industrial Crane Toy Control Lever TV Video Medical Measurement Equipment Automotive
The JH-D400X-R4 is a 4 axis analog joystick: tilting the lever forward-back and left-right controls the X and Y axes, turning the knob around its own axis controls the Z axis, and a push button sits on top of the knob. The position of each axis is read by a 10K potentiometer: the X and Y potentiometers are on the two sides of the body with 3 solder lugs each, while the Z potentiometer and the button are inside the knob and come out with wires.
The output is a stepless analog voltage; when supply and GND are applied to the ends of a potentiometer, the middle lug gives a voltage that changes with the lever position and is read by the analog input (ADC) of the control board. The potentiometer angle is 50 degrees, independent linearity is ±1% and output smoothness is 0.5% maximum, so slow and precise movement can be given in PTZ camera, crane and platform controls.
It comes with a black plastic body with an approximately 50mm x 50mm base, a metal lever shaft and a knurled grip knob; it is fixed to the control panel from above with the plastic mounting ring and screws in the package. This product is not a contact (switch) type joystick: it does not switch a motor or contactor directly, it gives the position as an analog signal.
Key features:
4 axes in one lever: Tilting the lever for X and Y, turning the knob for Z, plus the button on top. Pan, tilt and zoom of a PTZ camera are given with one hand.
3 pieces 10K potentiometer: Each axis has its own 10K potentiometer; the position is read as a stepless analog voltage and the resolution is set by the ADC of the control board.
Precise and smooth output: Independent linearity ±1%, output smoothness 0.5% maximum; the output voltage changes without jumps as the lever moves.
Easy panel mounting: It is fixed from the top of the panel with the plastic mounting ring and screws; the body stays under the panel and only the lever and knob are visible.
Wide operating temperature: It works between -10°C and 80°C; it can be used in outdoor control boxes and vehicle-mounted panels.

Usage information:
- Connect supply (e.g. 5V or 3.3V) and GND to the two end lugs of each potentiometer and the analog input of the control board to the middle lug. The value read with the lever in the center is the zero point of the axis; store it in software and calculate the movement from it.
- Do not expect the output to swing fully from 0V to the supply when the lever goes end to end. Measure the minimum and maximum value of each axis once and scale them in software (calibration).
- The Z axis and the button come out with wires: 3 wires go to the Z potentiometer and 2 wires to the button. Wire colors vary by batch (the product photos also show different colors); before connecting, find the middle lug of the potentiometer and the button wires with a multimeter. Connect one end of the button to an input (internal pull-up on) and the other to GND.
- When mounting on a panel, cut the hole for the lever according to the body size; place the body from below and fix the mounting ring from above with the screws.
Application areas:
- PTZ camera and security camera control (pan, tilt, zoom)
- Crane, hoist and lifting platform control panels (through an analog control board)
- Flight and driving simulators
- Robot arm and camera jib control
- Remote control vehicle and boat transmitters
- Medical device and measurement equipment control panels
- TV and video broadcast equipment control
- Game consoles and custom control boxes
- Motor speed and direction control panels (through a motor driver board)
Things to consider:
- This joystick gives an analog signal; it does not switch a motor, contactor or mains load directly. Pass only measuring current through the potentiometers and control the load through a motor driver or relay board.
- Hold the soldering iron briefly when soldering the potentiometer lugs; long heating damages the plastic body and the resistive track of the potentiometer.
- Do not force the lever and knob beyond the mechanical limit and do not use the lever as a crowbar; the potentiometer shafts and the body may break.
- The value read with the lever in the center differs slightly from axis to axis and unit to unit; define a small dead zone around the zero point, otherwise movement may be detected while the lever is at rest.
- The body is of open construction; it is not waterproof or dustproof. Outdoors, use it inside a panel protected against rain and dust.
