     The SHT40 Sensor Module with 1m Cable is a temperature and humidity probe in which a Sensirion SHT40 digital temperature and humidity sensor is placed inside a protective probe head, with a 1m (100cm) cable. It measures temperature from -40°C to +125°C and relative humidity from 0% to 100% RH; temperature accuracy is ±0.2°C and humidity accuracy is ±1.8% RH. Communication with the sensor is done over IIC (I2C) at address 0x44 and it operates at 3.3V.

     It is a temperature and humidity sensor using the SHT40 sensor. It has a waterproof housing. Water droplets do not get inside the sensor, but it has a special structure that allows air molecules to seep in. Even if exposed to water for a long time, the sensor is not damaged. The probe head consists of a black vented protective cap, a brass-coloured hexagonal metal body and a white cable gland; it measures 68mm x 15mm.

     Thanks to the 1m cable, the sensor can be placed in the environment to be measured (greenhouse, incubator, cold room, inside a cabinet) while the control board and display stay outside. The cable end is open; the 4 coloured wires (red VCC, black GND, white SDA, yellow SCL) connect directly to a control board, terminal block or connector.

     1m cable: The sensor goes to the measuring point, while the board and display stay in a dry and accessible place. The cable end comes as 4 open wires.

     Wide measuring range: It measures from -40°C to +125°C and 0% to 100% RH; it can be used in environments ranging from cold rooms and freezers to incubators.

     Built-in heater: The SHT40 sensor contains a heater that is switched on by command; it can be used to dry the sensor after condensation.

Usage information:

• Connect the red wire to 3.3V, the black wire to GND, the white wire to the SDA pin and the yellow wire to the SCL pin of the control board. The sensor responds at address 0x44.
• If the control board has no pull-up resistors on the IIC bus, pull the SDA and SCL lines up to 3.3V with resistors; on a 5V board use a 3.3V level shifter.
• Place the probe in the environment to be measured so that the protective cap does not receive direct sunlight, heater or fan airflow; route the cable to the dry area where the board is located.

Precautions:

•  The operating voltage is 3.3V; the product is damaged if used with 5V. Do not connect the supply and data lines to 5V.
•  The sensor chip measures from -40°C to +125°C; for cabled probes, sellers give a lower upper limit for the cable and body (+80°C to +110°C). Do not use the probe continuously at high temperature.
•  If the sensor stays outside the recommended 5°C - 60°C and 20% - 80% RH range for a long time, the humidity reading may show a temporary offset; it recovers when returned to normal conditions.
•  Do not remove the vented protective cap or touch the sensor inside; oil, dust and chemical vapours disturb the humidity measurement.
