Note: The 5V output of an Arduino cannot power this motor. The control signal can come from the Arduino, but the motor must always be powered from an external supply.

     TD-8120MG is a standard size digital servo motor with metal gears and "20KG DIGITAL SERVO" printed on its case. It gives about 19.5kg/cm stall torque at 4.8V and about 21kg/cm - 23kg/cm at higher supply voltage; the shaft moves to the commanded angle within 180 degrees and holds that position under load. It is controlled with a 500µs - 2500µs pulse width, which covers the full 0 - 180 degree travel.

     The whole gear train is metal, so it suits loads that micro and mini servos cannot carry: robot arm shoulder and elbow joints, RC car steering and heavy control surfaces. The body measures about 40mm x 20mm x 40.5mm (about 54mm long with the mounting ears) and weighs about 65gr; the mounting ears on both sides fit standard servo slots. The output shaft has 25 teeth (25T), so 25T servo horns and metal servo brackets fit directly.

     The 3 pin connector at the end of the 30cm cable (brown GND, red +, orange signal) plugs directly into servo driver boards and RC receivers. The case is protected against splashing water, so it can be used on outdoor cars and boats, but it must not be submerged.

Key features:

     20kg class torque: About 19.5kg/cm stall torque at 4.8V and about 21kg/cm - 23kg/cm at higher supply voltage. Roughly 10 times stronger than micro servos such as the MG90S; it carries long robot arms and heavy mechanisms.

     All metal gears: Metal gears carry the power from the motor to the shaft. The risk of stripped teeth under impact, sudden load or stall is low compared to plastic gears.

     Digital control, 180 degrees: With a 500µs - 2500µs PWM pulse it moves to any angle between 0 and 180 degrees and holds it under load.

     Standard size body and 25T shaft: The 40mm x 20mm body fits standard servo slots and servo brackets; 25T servo horns fit the 25 tooth output shaft.

     Splash resistant: The case is protected against rain and splashing water; it can be used on RC cars, boats and outdoor mechanisms.

Usage information:

• Connect the brown wire to GND, the red wire to a separate 4.8V - 7.2V supply that can deliver at least 2.7A, and the orange wire to the PWM output of the controller. Connect the supply GND to the controller GND.
• For the full 180 degree travel set the shortest pulse to 500µs and the longest pulse to 2500µs in the controller. If the servo hits the end stop and buzzes, move the end values slightly inward.
• Before fitting the horn, bring the servo to the middle position (about 90 degrees); fit the horn on the 25T shaft in this position and secure it with its screw.

Precautions:

•  When stalled the servo draws about 2.4A at 4.8V and more at higher supply voltage. Power it from a separate supply with enough current, not from the controller; for several servos multiply the supply current by the number of servos.
•  This is a positional servo and does not rotate continuously through 360 degrees; a continuous rotation servo is needed to drive wheels.
•  The case is splash resistant, not waterproof; do not submerge it.
•  Do not force the servo beyond its mechanical limit and do not leave it stalled for a long time; the motor and driver heat up.
•  The recommended operating voltage is 4.8V - 7.2V. The upper limit given by sellers is 7.4V - 8.4V; a supply above this damages the servo.
