4 Channel Mosfet Driver Module
Pwm Speed Control Motor Solenoid Valve Switch Led Lamp Dimmer
The 4 channel mosfet driver board has been developed for switching high current DC loads. The board carries 4 IRF540 N channel MOSFETs; each channel is switched on and off separately from its own input. Each channel is triggered with a 3.3V or 5V control signal; when a PWM signal is applied to the input, the output power of that channel is adjusted. So one board can control four separate DC loads independently, for example led strip brightness, DC motor, pump and fan speed.
The control inputs are connected to the MOSFETs through a PS2801-4 four channel optocoupler; the microcontroller pin is not connected directly to the MOSFET gate and is less affected by the interference created by loads such as motors and valves. Some sellers state that the GND is common on the board; so the board does not provide full galvanic isolation. Each channel has an LED showing its state. The load supply is applied from the POWER terminal; loads up to 24V DC can be switched.
The board is not suitable for the control of AC power. When switching at high power the MOSFETs should be used with a heatsink. The load outputs and the supply are connected with screw terminals, the control inputs with a separate 3 pin connector for each channel; it is fixed to a box or panel with the mounting holes at the 4 corners.
Features:
- Product type: 4 channel optocoupler MOSFET switching (driver) board
- Number of channels: 4 (each channel is controlled separately)
- MOSFET: 4 pcs IRF540 N channel, TO-220 package
- Trigger (control) signal: 3.3V, 5V
- Load supply voltage: up to 24V DC; 9V and above is recommended
- Recommended load current: up to 5A per channel (without heatsink). Seller values are 7A - 10A without heatsink; the 33A given by some sellers is the datasheet value of the MOSFET with ideal cooling; it does not apply to the board.
- PWM: output power adjustable with a PWM signal (brightness, speed control)
- Load type: DC loads only (led, motor, pump, solenoid valve, fan, heater)
- Optocoupler: PS2801-4 four channel (the control signal reaches the MOSFET gate through the optocoupler; GND may be common, it is not full galvanic isolation)
- Indicator: status LED for each channel (LED1 - LED4)
- Compatible boards: Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266, Raspberry Pi, STM32 and control boards with 3.3V / 5V outputs
- Control inputs: 3 pin connector for each channel (CH1 - CH4)
- Load connection: + / - screw terminal for each channel, plus a POWER + / - supply terminal
- Board code: MOSFET4 U04
- Mounting: mounting hole at each of the 4 corners
- Colour: Red PCB, green terminals
- Dimensions: about 66mm x 66mm (height 14mm - 18mm)
- Weight: about 33gr
Usage information:
- Connect the load power supply to the POWER terminal (+ and -). Connect each load between the + and - terminals of its own channel.
- On the 3 pin input connector of the related channel (CH1 - CH4) connect the + pin to 5V, the - pin to the GND of the control board and the S pin to the output pin of the control board. The connector has no pin marking; the pin order is seller information, check it before connecting. When the input is high (3.3V / 5V) the channel turns on and its LED lights; when it is low the load turns off.
- For brightness or speed adjustment apply a PWM signal at the 3.3V / 5V level to the S input of the related channel; the output power of the channel is adjusted with this signal.
Application areas:
- Led strip and led lamp dimmer (brightness) control
- DC motor speed control (single direction)
- Water pumps and irrigation systems
- Solenoid valve and electromagnetic lock switching
- Fan and ventilation control
- Aquarium led light and DC pump automation
- Greenhouse and incubator automation
- DC heater and heating element control
- Home automation and education projects with Arduino and ESP32
Points to consider:
- The board is not suitable for the control of AC power (220V mains); use it only with DC loads.
- When switching at high power use the MOSFETs with a heatsink. The current of all 4 channels passes through the common POWER terminal; plan the total current accordingly.
- When the load supply is below 9V (e.g. 5V) the MOSFET may not turn fully on and may heat up; use a 9V - 24V DC supply.
- There is no coil protection diode on the board. With coil loads such as motors, pumps and solenoids connect a reverse parallel diode across the coil terminals; choose the diode according to the load current and use a Schottky diode with PWM driven motors (e.g. 1N5819 up to 1A, SR560 up to 5A).
